Your 'Nielsen' top 10 as of now

So what is everyone's favorite show as of now?

Make your own 'Nielsen' list

Here is mine:

01. Frasier (NBC)
02. Friends (NBC)
03. Family Law (CBS)
04. King of Queens (CBS)
05. ER (NBC)
06. Will and Grace (NBC)
07. Inside Schwartz (NBC)
08. Just Shoot Me (NBC)
09. Yes, Dear (CBS)
10. Scrubs (NBC)

Looks like I watch NBC and CBS I only watch one show on ABC, which is the Practice. I don't watch anything on Fox, WB, or UPN as of now!

There's a contradiction in your post. You ask for favorite shows, but you want them called a 'Nielsen' list. As Nielsen Media Research rates viewership, not quality, there's a definite problem. I know what you mean, and I'm just being argumentative, but it would definitely be two different lists for me. My Nielsen list would be shows that don't take many chances, stick to a tried and true (read: old and boring) formula, and frequently either copy their predecessors or rehash their own materiel. My favorite list would likely contain 10 different shows. Nothing against Nielsen, but it measures quantity of viewers, and most people watching television don't want something good ... they want something simple. They work hard all day and don't want to have to think while being entertained. Not my personal choice, but I guess there's value to that desire.

My Nielsen list would then be pretty much exactly what yours is: entertaining shows, but nothing really special. (Nothing against you liking them ... you're certainly in the majority)

My 'Favorite' list of shows currently on the air would likely contain the following 10 shows, in no particular order (and trying to maintain balance between new and old shows, genre and mainstream, and neglecting variety shows):

The West Wing
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Angel
Alias
Philly
The Family Guy
Farscape
The Invisible Man
South Park
Curb Your Enthusiasm

Note: I've left out HBO shows that aren't in season, mainly because they'd dominate my list if I named them all.

das Monkey: I don't give a rats..... I said ' Nielsen ' I know what it is. I read the ratings every week. I said that because originally in my post I was going to do it with % by networks, etc but I got lazy. Besides saying "list your ten favorite shows so far" sounds very unoriginal.

I know ... I was just being a jackass, because some of the best shows on television don't appear very high on the Nielsens. Speaking of which, I forgot 'Once & Again' on my list.

I totally agree with you there. Some of the best shows end up canceled Or, they actually do appear on the Nielsens.... just way at the bottom! lol
