Personally, I am glad they got cancelled. It just takes decent shows off the air, IMO. I sure haven't seen anyone too upset about this.

I really don't care either. The only awards show I ever watch is the Academy Awards. I think it's time for them to just put out a press release announcing the winners.

Yea, we were running on this thread in Other or here? I think they should give the winners their awards (why should it matter whether or not they get them on tv or in private), and they can post the winner's names on line, in the Hollywood reporter and in the appropriate sections of the newspaper. They're pretty much a sham anyway.

It started in Other and I moved it in here. Anyway, I agree that the winners should still get the awards. I also agree that it *shouldn't* make any difference if it's done on TV or in private. (Oh no, if they do it in private... then does this belong in TV Talk? ) Of course, for at least some of the winners, there would be more concern for being seen on the award show than for actually winning the award.

Dead - exactly! When it's to the point that all they care about is who sees them on TV, and what new "fad" they can state that they are supporting, what is the point of the award anymore?

I hadn't thought about that one, but it's another great example. I don't know which show it was, but I suspect that the highly revealing outfit J. Lopez wore to it meant more to her than any other part of the ceremony.

I was just thinking about the actual show and some of the people desire to be seen if/when they get the award. I wouldn't have ever thought about the stuff before the show (and probably parties afterwards) if you hadn't brought it up.

It does then beg the question, what are these shows really all about? Did they get away from their original purpose? Do they any longer serve a purpose?

You might take that a step further and ask if they really ever had a purpose... beyond advertising those individuals the "insiders" wanted to support that is. I don't know when most of them started, but they may have always been more about making a statement like who you're with, how you're dressed, etc. than about how well you actually preform.

I guess I would like to believe they originally served a purpose. It seems like early on, there was really thought on the nominations. Now, it's more like a popularity, click thing than anything else.
