by the end of the series....yes.

if this is the last season, then yes by the end of the season.

even if its not, maybe, as a season finale

I guess since thats how the series started, thats how things will end. God forbid trying something new if this is indeed the last season.

I agree, too
that's the kind of thing they'd save for the very end

I agreee with everyone, they should end the series with Ross and Rachel getting married. The real question is would this occur before or after Rachel has the child?

They started the show with Rachel not getting married, so why not end it with her getting married? Seems like a full circle thing in a weird sort of way.

If this is the last season, I agree, the one hour series finale should be of them getting married. I picture the end of them saying their "I do's" and then of course they kiss and they show all of the cast members faces like going down the best men/bridemaids....

IF there is going to be another season (are their contracts up this year??) I am not sure how they should work it.

All I know is if goes off the air... what will be on in its timeslot! AHHHHH!!!!!!! Oh well at least Frasier will still be on.

Not only is my answer, like everyone else's, yes, but I also fully expect Phoebe and Joey to hook up before all is said and done, ending the show with each guy friend hooked up with one of the girl friends...

On that note, he actually proposed to her last week, and if you remember, she didn't say no..........

I could see the whole season being a "We're engaged!"/"No we're not!" thing between Phoebe and Joey.

yeah, and if handled in the same funny way as monica/chandler, it could be great. that was the last time that the show was REALLY good was when they were hiding it from everyone and then joey found out but had to keep it a secret.

I know someone who is an extra on "Friends" (always in Central Perk scenes, etc), who ASSURES me this is indeed the last season.

Not to be argumentative, but it's a long-lived truism in Hollywood that actors on the set, including the stars of the show, are often the last ones to know definitively about any creative decision made regarding the show. Of course, the cast of FRIENDS holds an unprecedented amount of power, so this may prove to be an exception...

They also have an incentive to indicate they don't want to come back. It helps in negotiations, you know.

Yah, producers always discuss show status with the extras.

My friend said that he heard on the radio that this is the last season...of course, he's also the guy that got a "C" in Art 101 our first semester in college, so I don't know if he's very reliable.

Well it's pretty much a done deal that this is the last season for Friends. I mean they only renewed their contracts for 2 years back in 1998 and that contract runs out at the end of this season.

I think Friends has used the "marriage card" way too much.

Let's see:

1. Rachel is about to get married, leaves fiancee at the alter
2. All the friends attend the lesbian wedding of Ross' Ex-wife (I think this was an episode)
3. Ross marries Emily, accidently says "Rachel"
4. Ross and Rachel get drunk, Marry in Vegas
5. Chandler and Monica get married

Did I forget any?

It seems the writers come up with some marriage situation whenever they runout of original stuff to write about. And let's face it, having the characters get married is about as original as making someone pregnant...Oops, but hey, only two of the female 'Friends' have been pregnant so far . Let's just pray to God they don't have Rachel give birth to twins.

Well, Rachel's old fiance did get married and Rachel, Ross, and Monica attended. I guess that counts.

Who the hell said anything about the producers discussing anything with the extras? You people, I swear to God. I know someone who interned for Ridley Scott's commercial company (RSA) for years and she knew more than half his staff based on what she overheard alone. Like the person I know who's the extra on "Friends". These guys are around the actors and producers A LOT! Witnessing conversations and even arguments with the cast and crew. Mostly during the rehearsals. Like the last time Matthew Perry went into rehab. He said Matt LeBlanc almost got physical with Perry he was so pissed at him messing up and missing work. But my friend said the cast's heart just isn't in the show anymore and he's heard almost everyone say that this year is it.
