The MTV 2001 VMA thread

I might actually tune in to this show tonight. I really don't watch the show for the performance as much as its significance in terms of pop culture. Virtually every year some icon or "in crowd" celebrity does something shocking that makes headlines the next day.

I notice that out of all the performances this year, they are hyping Brittney's over everyone else. I have seen promos only mentioning her and the time of the event, guess she's kind of important. With this kind of hype I figure she will either open the show or be the last thing on the roster. I might try a live thread in the "otter" forum tonight if anyone wants to join.

I don't really want to watch the show, but here's hoping britney does her thing this year too.

Any word on when she might be appearing?

jeff462v 09-06-01 02:58 PM

I read in the paper that Aaliya's realtives are suppose to make a speech , and MTV is doing a tribute to her also . As for Britany i can't wait to see what she does this year . And i think Jamie Foxx will be hilarious i hope he makes fun of all the boy bands .

Wormwood 09-06-01 04:21 PM

I'm not so sure about Jamie Foxx hosting, then again it can't be any worse than last year.

slop101 09-06-01 05:35 PM

This year's show, like many others, has absolutely no performers or even presenters that I am even remotely interested in.

The wayne brother did horrible! The people giving thank you speeches were incoherent, kid rock was wasted... The ahristina and fred durst performance you could tell was not wanted by either party... It just reeked of "yeah we threw the show together a half hour ago, enjoy" ... horrible. And such a 180 from when chris rock hosted, that was a great year.

Jamie Fox did awesome on SNL, so i'm hoping he can save this years VMA... Plus the promo spots of him on the piano are hilarious.... "you remind me of a girl.. looks like.. a dude.. Wouldn't say it but we wear the same size shoes.." hilarious.

Jamie Foxx ain't doing too hot.

Wait, please tell me this is the rehersal we're watching right?..... right? The producers of this show shoudl be drug out in the street and shot. Theres a difference between TRL and an award show....

Put the fans in the balcony, and tell them to shutup.. if they scream you can't hear what people are saying. Don't half-say things into the mic, and half with the mic down at your side... it makes you look stupid.

So far The will ferrell thing was funny, but they jsut left everyone hanging.. a real waste of ferrell if you ask me. OUtcast wasa good pick for hiphop video... Dissing AJ for being sober was below the belt.

Back to the show :)

skar 09-06-01 08:25 PM

Did they have only have 2 awards given out in the first hour?
I thought this was supposed to be an awards show.

ClarkKentKY 09-06-01 08:41 PM

Man they wasted Micheal Jackson too. 16 seconds of dancing.. they didn't even give him a mic.

These producers suck. hard.

So far its a yawn... just lke last year

what ever happened to the good old days when it was funny.. ala the Bill Shatner poetry reading of best song nominees :)

Alvis 09-06-01 09:22 PM

Whatever Brittany does tonight, I am sure it will have all new signifigance for me when I see my 8 year olds wearing her t-shirts.

tsohg 09-06-01 09:31 PM

Am I the only on that felt like I was eight years old again seeing MJ out there dancing  despite the jokes and controversy it was good to see him on stage again his new song aint that bad either :)

cartman 09-06-01 09:52 PM

Did U2 get cut out due to the stage not seperating? I heard a "WOOOOOOO!" from Bono...

RollerGirl78 09-06-01 09:54 PM

Did the ladies of Moulin Rouge say the want to thank god after they thanked everyone that thought they'd be good whores?

I taped it and I am pissed. All I heard was how syked everyone was about the "secret" performance which most knew was Mike Jackson. He didn't even sing.
Cheap bastard. He'll sing tomorrow at MSG for all the paying customers who shell out big bucks.

and don't blame the producers.....like they are gonna tell Michael freakin Jackson what he can and can't do.

If he wanted to sing You Rock My World then he would have.

ClarkKentKY 09-06-01 09:55 PM

Horrible production value on this show... a chimp could do better :)

I guarantee Micheal would have sang had a decent number been proposed...

Yeah the moulin rougers made me sick... "i want to thank our makeup epople, big mouth billy bass, our set deisgners.... ... .... ... ... ... ... .. ... . .. . . . . . . . ....... oh yeah and god"

Yes, she's alwyas mantained her calim to be waiting for marriage. Which i give her props for... People want to bash her for trashy clothes and influencing parentless kids.. but no one gives her a round of applause which she promotes abstinence.. But the Nsync boy and her are reportedly living together in CA, and they've been going out over a year... So, think what we will. Who knows.

Of course they don't applaud. Abstinence isn't "cool" to the public. I don't much care what she's doing, but I know that it is possible to live with someone and not have sex (I plan on doing it before I get married, living with my female, that is).

Yeah, but she also said he's growing up and that it's getting hard to wait.
