BBC America

Well, I've recently started to tune into this channel. It started when I surfed into The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, which was my introduction to fantasy literature. So, I wanted to see if they did a good job with it. It wasn't bad.

Next I caught part of a movie called Crossing the Floor. It's a political drama which looked interesting from what little I saw.

I've also seen Jonathan Creek, which they call the british version of the X-Files. I like what I've seen so far. I'm going to check out a few more eps.

Monarch of the Glen is pretty neat. I like the location and the lead actor is pretty hot. I'll stick with this one for a bit.

I'm going to be checking out Balleykissangel, Keeping up Apperances and The Vicar of Didley.

Anyone else have other suggestions?

Oh yea, Changing Rooms and Ground Forces? is pretty neat too.

Depends on your understanding of British Humour of course, but I love The Royle Family. Iwatched all 3 seasons when they showed them on Friday nights a month or so ago.

Parkinson is an awesome chat show if you like that sort of thing.

Later with Jools Holland has some pretty cool musical guests on there.

Changing rooms is pretty fun, would not mind volunteering my apt for it. I think a show like that might do well over here in primetime.

There is a lot of good telly on bbcamerica

robert - I may be getting back to you down the road. Thanks for the tips. I like Monty Python, Ab fab and Some Mothers Do Have 'em.

My boyfriend and I have been thinking of a few trips overseas. Either Italy, England or Ireland. He said definitely Ireland if he can stay at the Guniness plant the whole time! He really likes his Guiness. So, I'll be looking for tips on when to go, what to see and what foods to try.

I am seriously addicted to Ground Force and Changing Rooms.

If you wnat a good laugh, check out "Trading Spaces" on TLC, which is the Americanized version of Changing Rooms. Of course, lacking any of the charm of the original.

If Brits ever watched this show it would only confirm their suspicions that most Americans are overweight hicks

I also find "Can't Cook, Won't Cook" pretty funny on BBC America. That cook/host guy is strange.

No problem, glad to help, I am off to Paris and Belgium and Amsterdam in a couple of weeks and am looking forward to it.

It is my 1st time being a tourist in Europe as a grown up.

One of my friends lives right behind the guinness factory, so maybe you guys can stay with his mom.

Wow! Jadzia in one of my threads! I'm not worthy! J/K Sorry I couldn't resist. How are you feeling since having your teeth out? I'll probably watch Changing Rooms and Ground Forces as time permits. I may also check out Can't Cook, Won't Cook, particularly if it's a cooking show. Being Italian, we tend to food.

robert - Cool! Even if we can't stay with him, maybe he won't mind going to a bar/pub/tavern or whatever they're referred to in Ireland, with us.

There's a channel like this? <flail> I'd kill to have it, which means if we do get it they'll put it on extended digital cable. Now I need to bug my cable company for this one AND Oxygen... boy will they be sick of me.

BBC America is one of the few reasons I keep my digital cable. I can't believe no one's mentioned Coupling yet. That show's hilarious. I'm also a Jools Holland addict. Love concert performance series. He just had Lou Reed on, and just a few weeks ago he had Warren Zevon performing "Werewolves Of London." Not to mention all the new talent he has on. Then there's Jonathan Creek, Castaway, Ground Force, Hammish MacBeth, all great. And then there's the movies. Peacekeepers, Eureka Street. Still waiting to see The Ice House, Crossing the Floor, and Deceit. This channel is such a refreshing change from the standard mill pressing of American television. Then again, they can't all be Sports Night.

Anyone who loves this channel as much as I do should also see if they can get Ovation. "The Arts Network." Lots of Artist profiles, from authors to musicians. Performances ranging from Kodo, to Ballet, to Blur, to Elvis Costello. They just had a sort of documentary on Woody Guthrie! How many people today know who Woody Guthrie is? They have so many profiles of so many different people. Their profile of J.R.R. Tolkein was great. I could keep going, but I won't.

Check out these channels respective sites if you want to know more.

Hey elektra! The teeth aren't too good. I think I developed dry socket. It happens in about 5% of wisdome teeth extractions, so of course that means I get it I'm going back to the oral surgeon today to see if they can fix me back up.

My mom is about to get digital cable and I keep telling her how much she's going to love BBC America, since she has always enjoyed British dramas, etc.

Dang! I hate it when that happens. Tell the doc I said to give you some good drugs until the view kind of melts and fades and the pain goes away.

I hope you're feeling better soon.

</small>A UK X-files it isn't (wait for the Invisibles if it is ever made). I love the acting, the location filming, the premise etc. Where they went wrong IMNSHO was in failing to get good, inventive scripts.

It is about a stage magician/illusionist's assistant who debunks mysteries he has been dragged to by his "platonic" (will-they/won't they) crime-reporting journalist ladyfriend. Light comedy drama.

I don't know if these comedies will be shown but watch out for (from BBC) Coupling, How Do You Want Me? (comedy drama), Kiss Me Kate, (from Channel 4) Spaced, Black Books, Smack the Pony (sketch show) and Father Ted.
