I work for a television station, and we are producing a series on Naval warfare & technology... we recorded a narration with an actor already, but my boss hated it, so we are hoping to dump it and record a new narration track with someone else. Who do you think would do a good job? Give me some really good answers... I wanna make the boss happy.

Jones will likely be too much money, and the opinion here is that he is too played out.
I suggested Keith David (who I think is amazing) but my boss doesn't know who he is, and probably wouldn't like him.
Hackman has been tossed about as an idea, but again, will probably be too much money.
How about I rephrase the question: Who would make you more interested in watching, without distracting you with how ubiquitous his voice is, and who also is not a huge star?

The dude who played the drill instructor in Full Metal Jacket. I think his name is R. Lee Ermey. I believe I have heard him narrate something a time or two.
Dale Dye (the guy who plays a military character in every flick he is in)

I was just about to suggest Scot Glenn, along with Ed Harris and Lance Henriksen.

Those would all be great choices, I think. I wonder if Ed would be a little pricey these days, tho...

How about From The Earth To The Moon? That had a cast of hundreds, many of whom might have a solid VO background and be available cheap. I was thinking, for example, of Nick Searcy, who was also Tom Hanks' FedEx friend in Cast Away and regularly plays military types...

At any rate, it's great to share ideas with you, whether we're on the same side of an issue (Thread A) or not (Thread B)...
