Re: Discovery + streaming service - Coming January 4, 2021

I signed up for a free week. I like what I've sampled so far. Race around the world thanks to DJariya, The Maureen McCormick reno show is fun and the Bobby Giada in Italy is a nice watch. I don't have the unlimited plan with Verizon, so will have to pony up for this, but I think I will. There is a lot of content I enjoy as I like Food and HGTV, but have given those a rest for a year so ready to jump back in...

I hope my wife doesn't find out about this because it will be all she will watch.

Be aware there is stuff that isn't on here. Discovery did a deal with Hulu previously so they have a ton of content. No word on when that deal runs out, but you can assume that stuff will shift over here.

Discovery is really being quite annoying with the Discovery+ push. If you watch any of their shows on regular cable channels there’s a constant watermark advertising it, plus pretty much every break there’s at least one commercial for it.

First series is great. Second series not so much IMO. I didn't like any of the teams.

Decided to go ahead and get this when it debuted. Like having all these shows in one place, been going back and re-watching some Mythbusters, Restaurant Impossible and a few Investigation Discovery shows. Also checked out Mysterious Planet hosted by David Schwimmer.

I've been watching this almost every day since I sampled it, will be keeping for at least a year. I think it's a great comfort TV streaming app. I like the Marcia Brady reno Show, Race Around the World, Bobby and Giada in Italy and checking out some HGTV shows I have not sampled before like Restored

I am loving Discovery + I watched anywhere from 2 to 3 hours per night. I think I watched 2 or 3 episodes of Best places to pig out last night. This is guilty pleasure comfort TV when I'm not really feeling watching something scripted.

The "channels" are now available. These stream random episodes non-stop. Unfortunately, you can't watch individual episodes of these shows. And there's no way to Pause or Rewind.

90 Day Fiance
Fixer Upper
House Hunters
House Hunters International
Deadly Women
Homicide Hunter
Property Brothers
Chopped & Flipped (Chopped and Flip or Flop)
Say Yes to the Dress
Property Brothers: Buying and Selling

I did the free trial to watch the Freddy Dodge Gold Rush show. Only 6 episodes so I was able to get through them. I didn't see much else in the way of original content tho so I decided to cancel for now, before they billed me.

Special promo.

1 year ad free for $59

6 months ad free for $29

It's a gift subscription and you cannot do it if you're a current subscriber. But you can gift yourself if you aren't.

If these type of shows/content interest you, I think it's worth it. I know not everyone here has the time to subscribe to every new service.

Re: Discovery + streaming service - Coming January 4, 2021

I noticed a strategy that Discovery+ is doing.

They will air the season premiere of an established show on cable, Hulu Live, etc, but the remaining new episodes of the season air exclusively on Discovery+ now.

Obviously trying to get viewers like me hooked on a new season! Haha

Thanks, I bought the year gift, but I originally signed up through Amazon and it won't accept this gift through there website app payment process. So I have to wait for my monthly subscription to end next week, turn off auto renewals then try and go to the D+ website and see if it takes it then... Amazon auto renewals are annoying, note to self....

Turns out my monthly billing will renew tomorrow. I subscribed through Roku. Going to cancel and re-sign up with the 1 year discounted promo with a different email address.

Re: Discovery + streaming service - Coming January 4, 2021

I get Discovery + for free for the first year via my Verizon Wireless package (along with their free Disney+/EPSN+/Hulu and Apple TV+ first year free that got extended to June, I've been saving a lot). Other than browsing, I haven't watched anything yet...anyone recommend some good, addictive series that aren't TOO scripted?

Do you like travel, food and lifestyle shows? There’s a lot on there. That’s the ones I usually watch.

My favorite so far has been Race across the World. That was pretty addictive. I enjoy watching stuff like Food Paradise, Food Paradise International, Best places to pig out. And I like watching Andrew Zimmern’s shows.

There’s a lot of Discovery documentaries as well. I know there’s a lot and it’s hard to decide what to make time for.

I got this one ($4.99 option) and enjoying so far. I like a variety of the content on there, including Food (been catching up on Restaurant Impossible), Home (Property Brothers) and paranormal (stupid but fun to watch). Also going to check out some of the nature shows. IMO, it's worth the cost even with ads.

I like the Maureen McCormick show, Fixer to Fabulous has been a pleasant reno show, race around the world was very good, bobby and giada in Italy was good fun.. just sampled the beach bungalow reno show with Snookie from JS, it was filmed about 20 mins from my house, had Wendell from Survivor as a Designer. not great....

been enjoying this streamer a lot!
