Re: The Kanopy and Hoopla Streaming Thread

Has anyone tried using the Hoopla app lately? Terrifier 2 is on Hoopla and I was trying to watch it. The app on my iPad crashed multiple times during playback. I then tried watching Hoopla on my Roku and the app also crashed again multiple times.

I rarely use it because it streams in SD for a lot of stuff.

If you want to watch Terrifier 2, I’d say just sign up for a free trial of ScreamBox and cancel after watching (you should still get the full trial time).

Hoopla worked on my Apple TV without crashing, so I did finish out.

I've had problems with Hoopla using my Roku. It would kick me out to the main Roku menu, I'd reopen Hoopla and continue. Sometimes multiple times to finish anything.

Yeah, it's most stable on Apple TV. I watched Cobb (Ty Cobb bio-pic with Tommy Lee Jones) a couple of weeks ago and it played fine.

I absolutely love that both services are available free with anyone who has a valid library card. Much like the library itself, users are limited to a set amount of "borrows" per month.

But I'm just not the demographic for the vast majority of shows/movies on them, barring a few surprises from time to time.

Another limitation--depending on your library's deal with Hoopla--is that there may be a daily limit for total Hoopla views from patrons of your library. Many times I'll try to start watching something only to get a screen that says my library's daily limit has been reached, even though I haven't used up my personal monthly views.
But that's a minor annoyance and I do use it fairly frequently. I've found that I can more easily find things I want to watch by browsing the Hoopla site in a web browser on my PC and favoriting (clicking on the heart symbol) the things I want to watch. Then they're easy to find in my favorites list on the app on my TV. When just browsing through the TV app itself for things to watch, it seems like the list of titles is a lot more limited.

I mainly use Hoopla for comics. Download the max to my device, then read them offline at my leisure so as to not worry about them leaving the service or my deadlines hitting.

Just finished Terrifier 2 on Hoopla, no issues at all.

Bad Taste is streaming on Kanopy:

I don't think it's streaming anywhere else and the DVD has been OOP for years. No BD was ever released either.

That was my first Peter Jackson! Might have to revisit it.

I have the DVD but all my DVDs are in storage so it's nice when a movie like this in on streaming because I don't wanna have to dig through boxes of movies just to find 1.

I have the DVD, but I originally watched it on a VHS that was probably a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy...

My DVD is in storage, but it's also in my Plex library :)
