Yeah, no sign of anything, apologies if the tweet I put was misinformed. The best deal if this doesn't come to fruition is still signing up for Walmart+ for the discounted 49 bucks a year and choosing peacock as your freebie.

Dammit! Should have known better than believe some random blue sky account

Well, I might, for me at least, have a way to bring the cost down a little. As I already stated, I have a $20 cash back promo on my AMEX. I can also get $12 cash back from Rakuten. Yeah it’s not as awesome as $20 for a year, but it helps.

Is that discount per month? Otherwise, as long as you don't care about ads, why not just sign up for Walmart+ as described above?

It’s for the annual rate. For Peacock Premium.

Right, isn't that still like almost a hundred bucks? If you sign up for Walmart Plus now it's half that.

Yes but you don't get premium with the W+. You have to pay the upgrade charge. So it is probably a wash.

Edit: My bad, I guess you do get premium with it. I thought it was the base service.

Re: Peacock -- NBC Universal streaming service

Remember, Peacock Premium includes ads. You have to get Peacock Premium Plus to dump the ads. And I do not think they give the ability to just pay the upgrade fee anymore if you just have the regular or premium version. They took that option away earlier this year.

Peacock sucks. I hate the service. And it never works correctly with my Google TV and even the Xbox app has issues. It is the shittiest app that I have, streaming-wise and that is saying something. I am burning through a few things (just finished the second season of twisted Metal) and I am out again for the long haul this time. Too many other better services out there and they are pretty scarce on their exclusives.

Thanks. I guess I will be going that route. At least I shop pretty regularly at Walmart and it has other perks than just a video streaming service.

At this point I'll probably just spring for the 1 month that the Olympics are on and call it a day.

I blame their dumb naming. Having ads is not "premium" even if you have an even lower tier of service. And yes they don't have a way to upgrade via walmart plus which is weird because I just checked the Peacock Plus I get from Spectrum and there still is a way to upgrade.

Re: Peacock -- NBC Universal streaming service

On November 23, our plan auto-renewed but I hadn't updated our payment method (I got a new credit card this year) so they sent me a couple emails asking me to do so, and the service continued uninterrupted. I canceled on November 30 and didn't get an email asking me to stay for a lower rate. I'm fine with it.

Peacock has some good stuff, but it's the streaming service that we all watch the least, the increased cost isn't great, the ads are frustrating, and the fact that I can watch CBS live via Paramount+ but not NBC live via Peacock always makes it a lesser tier streamer to me (I have similar thoughts with Hulu and ABC, but I don't do their Live TV bit, so it's fine).

If they make an offer, maybe we'll be back. But we have plenty of underutilized streamers as it is.

Kinda like all those hundreds of unwatched cable TV channels when we cut the cord...

Same happened when I cancelled in October. No offer, just cancel. A week or two later I got the $2.99/mo for 6 months offer in email.

Re: Peacock -- NBC Universal streaming service

As this is my least watched service by far, I was prepared to cancel on Sunday. Then they hit me with the 1 year at 39.99 offer so I guess I’m sticking around. Maybe now I’ll finish Three’s Company.

Re: Peacock -- NBC Universal streaming service

Just got an email for an offer of $29.99/yr. Not exactly a deal to instantly grab but it's moving in the right direction.

Re: Peacock -- NBC Universal streaming service

I haven't gotten jack shit. Would probably have renewed for $29.99, but not full price.

That email says, "This price was set by an algorithm using your personal data"

They also sent out an email with the new terms... One thing that caught my eye was going forward they are using not only email address but method of payment and deviceID to verify if you are eligible for promotions.

I got one for 59.99 after they had offered 39.99 when I canceled.

Re: Peacock -- NBC Universal streaming service

Get ready for ads when launching Peacock.

Peacock subscribers will see ads immediately upon opening the streaming app or website next year. It’s a bold new strategy for attracting advertisers—something that’s been increasingly important to subscription-based streaming services—but it also risks alienating viewers

As reported by Variety, the new type of ads will display on the profile selection page that shows when a subscriber launches Peacock. Starting next year, instead of the profile page just showing your different Peacock profiles, most of the page will be dominated by an advertorial image. The circles of NBCUniversal-owned characters selected for user profiles will be relegated to a vertical column on the screen’s left side, as you can see here.

To avoid seeing what NBCUniversal is calling “Arrival Ads” every time you open Peacock, you need to subscribe to Peacock’s most expensive plan, which is ad-free and starts at $17 per month (Peacock’s ad-based plans start at $8/month.)

NBCUniversal’s announcement claims that Peacock will be the first streaming service to implement this type of ad. But that may not be the brag the entertainment giant thinks it is, as subscribers may quickly find the startup ads disruptive.

The question is how long until they implement a countdown before you can select a profile. You know it's coming.

Re: Peacock -- NBC Universal streaming service

Some apps have ads pop up as soon as you hit the pause. I had an idea this was coming too after Roku was trying out video ads on their home page. We'll see what else they come up with.

See if you weren't so cheap and upgraded to our premium seats in the front, your experience would improve greatly.
