Nope. MAX is a completely separate entity.

I rolled my eyes when I saw the news of another streaming service, but I must admit that some of the planned shows do sound interesting.

re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

it does sound like a buttload of new and old content, but, if they have DC shows, what about the DC streaming service? they can't also show Batwoman, correct, or does that not apply bc Warner?

re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

Batwoman is a CW show and won't be available until after the season ends on their network. During the season it will only have the last 5 episodes on the free CW app, which has ads.

All new CW shows like Batwoman, Katy Keene and Nancy Drew are going to this service after they wrap their seasons. CW shows no longer have a 1st run deal with Netflix for new stuff. The old stuff will still stay there and any new episodes that are made will still stay there.

The DC Universe streaming service will still exist as of now because it also had digital comics, which this one does not.

DC Universe only has access to Titans, Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing and Young Justice for new shows. The rest of DC Universe's stuff is catalog content. Doom Patrol will also be on HBO Max next year because of a special renewal deal that was made.

Everything else is staying on Netflix.

No. But things come and go on the service will seemingly little rhyme or reason (besides the exclusive shows, of course). And they're going to be sharing content as well, since the next season of Doom Patrol will be on both Max and DC Universe.

HBO Max has acquired the exclusive streaming rights to Doctor Who and all future seasons.

they also acquired other BBC content including Luther, Top Gear and more.

guess this means Luther is leaving Prime video soon.

Wow, some big gets there. Makes it less of a reason to keep Netflix until their original shows have new seasons.

Not really. Netflix still has way more (and better content) than those new "acquisitions."

HBO Max is trying to get the rights to The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men to add to their library.

The rights for both could cost up to $1.5 billion according to the article.

Here's the excerpt explaining it

Part of the reason why the price tag is so high is because, unlike Friends and The Office, which have been drawing millions of old and new viewers on Netflix, Big Bang and 2.5 Men have never been exposed to streaming beyond a few “stacked” recent episodes of Big Bang on CBS All Access over the last several seasons. WBTV similarly held backFriends until scoring the big deal with Netflix in 2014.

Additionally, Big Bang just came off its original highly rated run on CBS and continues to be a huge draw in off-network syndication on TBS. Two and a Half Man,which went through two leading men, Charlie Sheen and Ashton Kutcher, has long been a top performer in broadcast syndication.

I hear talks are complex, in large part because of stipulations in co-creator/executive producer Lorre’s deal with WBTV, but I hear WarnerMedia is determined to have WBTV’s biggest comedy series of the last two decades, Friends, The Big Bang and 2.5 Men, on HBO Max at launch in spring 2020.

I wonder if any of the talent has backend deals for this. That is like Friends cast money.

re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

Chuck Lorre obviously wants a cut of the profits since he produced both shows. So I'm sure he is one of the big holdups.

If anything, since TBBT was an ensemble show, I think the cast might expect something as well. I'm sure they get a nice cut of the syndication money.

Prime Video Canada has all of the seasons for Two and Half Men right now. Is this on Prime Video US?

Crave (Canada Only Stream service) has the rights for TBBT.

I wonder if this service is coming to Canada as Crave holds all of the rights for the HBO and Starz shows and movies.

Nope. The Big Bang Theory is not carried as a full season/series on any streaming service in the States. Only the last 5 episodes that aired on CBS All-Access.

Two and a Half Men is also not available on any streaming service in the States. As mentioned in the article, the rights are very expensive.

International rights always differ from the U.S.

Then for once, Canadians have access to shows that Americans don't.

I have a feeling that unless the Bell Corporation (the owners of Crave) refuses to pay the rights fees to HBO, this service won't be coming north of the border.

Funny that Warners didn't secure future rights to BBT from the get-go. Chuck Lorre must have very good attorneys.

Given Disney and Apple, anything more than $9 a month will probably be a app-killer for Warners.

Doesn't this service include HBO? That alone is $15. You can't compare this to those services given how much premium new content comes from HBO.

Yeah, I was thinking it’d be bumped up from the HBO $15.

re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

If this has HBO and Cinemax then I think at least the part of the goal is to get people to drop it from their cable packages and pay them directly. I know that's what I'm planning to do. (Not that I have Cinemax any longer thanks to Comcast's shenanigans this summer)
