Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service
I share HBOmax currently. I’m almost wondering if i should sign up on my own now to lock in $14.99 for a bit since they said current subscribers won’t see an immediate price increase.
The future top tier plan doesn’t interest me except for the 4K. Not sure it’s worth the $5

This is so dumb.
So many people are going to be so confused trying to figure out where hbo is.

IDGAF what it is called. If I now get Discovery content with the merge with minimal cost increase, totally worth it.

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service
Officially called Max and it launches May 23rd.

No word on transition, if any, for current HBO or HBO Max subscribers. Access to 4K and Dolby Atmos streams requires the Max Ultimate Ad Free plan at $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year.

I do not like the price increase at all. $19.99 sucks ass. Guess I am basically paying for the Discovery content now.

$16.66 per month for the year long ultimate plan may sound expensive to some. But with 4K, Dolby Atmos, HBO, Discovery content all combined together, I think it’s a good value. But it will be hard parting with $200 all at once. I’d rather just do that than have a monthly $19.99 bill.
My current HBO Max subscription runs through July or August I think.

I am wondering if the top tier will ad more profiles. I would like to have at least one more.

Dumb name change but I guess whatever. I would think having HBO in the name would draw more attention. Max sounds pretty generic.

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service
I kind of think part of the reason they did this was to get the HBO subscribers off of this (and also the legacy AT&T subscribers and whoever else). The problem is they killed HBO Go so there's no HBO-only streaming option to bundle with the channel. But I can't see them giving this service away for the 10 bucks or whatever cable viewers can add HBO for, especially if it's supposed to be more than HBO and they want to make money.
edited to add: I stand corrected, at least for these providers:

I bet it's the non 4k version but as of right now I think they only have a handful of shows in 4k anyway (they have to be increasing that before the price change though)

Email just went out to current subscribers answering a number of questions.
https://help.hbomax.com/US/Answer/Detail/000002200
Looks like current ad-free subscribers will get the ultimate plan for a few months.
New website is live too:

Current HBO Max subscribers will keep their existing HBO Max plan features for at least 6 months after Max launches.

We enjoy the heck out of HBOMax and don't mind the cost since there's so much stuff on there, but losing 4k at the regular tier is kinda shitty.
And dropping the HBO is dumb, that's a vintage brand.

The HBO name was good but it didn’t fit with the TV sitcoms and other stuff they had. Max just makes me think of Cinemax though. At least it doesn’t have a + or the word Plus anywhere.
Why not call it the Z Channel?

Their new slogan seems to be “The One to Watch”, at which I submit this- (they had a more upbeat version of this promo but I never got that one on tape)

The name is really pretty stupid. It’s a minor thing but like, that’s the best they could come up with? At least having HBO in the name felt like it meant something and was recognizable.

I like how there are some people reacting negatively to the pricing online like it’s going to lead them to the poor house or starve. When some of these same people buy hundreds of dollars of Blu-rays and DVDs every month that they don’t even fucking watch and throw on a shelf or in the closet unopened for years. When here you still get all you can watch content every month for less than the price of one disc. And no one is pressuring you to keep up with everything. It’s simply not possible.

The $16.66 per month price is NO JOKE. Don't do it, people. Satan works in any way HE can to get you to GO TO HELL. (Does Discovery have Man Vs. Food? That's my guilty pleasure.)

Too bad they're not doing the new Max Headroom show. He would have made a great mascot for the service.

The pricing model for max kinda sucks. Especially for people who don’t give a shit about discovery content or need four streams or 100 hours of downloads.

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service
Interesting the email states getting all the new content at the same price we pay today. Yet reading the FAQ on max.com seems the plan that aligns with what we pay today is becoming the middle tier. Which actually drops in streaming quality. Right now many titles are UHD while the middle tier will become HD only. So more content lower quality.
