I meant stuff like Game of Thrones, True Detective or movies that air on HBO.

But yes the tentatively planned theatrical movies are likely to be in 4K. Subject to change of course.

Nice! I purchased the first season after watching the first episode, but now I can watch both seasons.

Anyone watching Summer Camp Island? Yes, it says Y7, but darn if it isn't cute with a lot of positive (though not preachy) messaging. Interesting characters and funny.

I've explored some old Looney Tunes as well.

Yeah I'm planning on putting that on for my 5yo. He probably won't care but so what.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

One thing I do wish they'd remedy is putting Previews/Trailers on ALL the stuff they stream. It's nice having a taste of a film you've never seen and it seems weird to me that some do warrant trailers and others don't and I don't know why. I think it's a pet peeve of mine that spans streaming apps.

Got an email fro HBOMax saying that the film is leaving the service on January 24th. I feel that they’ll lease the movie to Netflix or somewhere else where they’ll be able to get more money for it.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

It’s going back to being a theatre exclusive release where theatres are open. Then it will go to $20 to 25 PVOD and then disc. Then it will head to regular HBO. That’s where WB releases usually head.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

I subscribe to HBO Max via Hulu. I wish I could watch all the HBO Max exclusives on Hulu instead of having to use the HBO Max App. I understand Warnermedia wants people to use the HBO Max app, but if I subscribe to it through Hulu and everything is branded as HBO Max on Hulu I should be able to watch everything that HBO Max has in their catalog on Hulu. I know it's a minor complaint, but I can watch the Undoing and tons of HBO movies on Hulu, but I have to go to HBO Max to watch Doom Patrol, Love Life, The Flight Attendant and Wonder Woman 1984... It would be so much more convenient if I could watch everything on Hulu.

My PS4 updated Max caused an error screen and cannot access anything. Apparently this is happening on all platforms .

The HBO Max App on my PS4 has been terrible. It crashes often when I try to use it

A couple of weeks ago I watched the first three episodes of season 1 and, as Jay G mentions, 'The Cat and the Claw Part 2' was not among them--it was listed as ep 8. Today I was going to watch another episode and the HBO Max app said the next episode for me to watch was 'Ep 5 Feat of Clay part 1' but I knew I had only watched three eps so far so I checked and saw that they have moved 'The Cat and the Claw Part 2' to episode 2 for season 1 so that it immediately follows part 1. I checked against a list online and it looks like the rest of the episodes are still all in broadcast order--so they only moved that one episode so that the two-parter wasn't split anymore.

Does anyone else watch the reality competition Full Bloom? It’s like Top Chef for florists and despite undeniably being one of the gayest shows on TV, I really love watching it. I find the ability to craft stunning works of art out of flowers endlessly fascinating.

I just noticed that the 20% off six month prepay offer has been extended from 1/15/21 to 3/1/21. This will allow me to take advantage of the deal as I had used old HBO Now cards to pay through January.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

AT&T said the number of activated subscriptions to streaming service HBO Max doubled in the fourth quarter to 17.2 million compared with the third quarter, partly due to the release of Wonder Woman 1984.

The number of overall domestic subscriptions to both regular HBO and HBO Max reached 41.5 million, which the company said was two years ahead of its initial forecasts and up from 34.6 million in the 2019 quarter. Before the May 2020 debut of HBO Max, AT&T said its five-year goal was to get 50 million total U.S. subscribers, and between 75 million to 90 million globally.

While HBO Max costs $15 a month for direct retail subscribers, existing HBO subscribers are entitled to activate their subscriptions at no extra cost. AT&T struggled in the early going with driving those conversions, especially with rivals launching far cheaper streaming alternatives. The company recently decided to substantially up the ante on streaming service (to the consternation of many in Hollywood) by putting the entire 2021 Warner Bros movie release slate on HBO Max at the same time it hits theaters. WW1984 followed that release pattern on Christmas Day. No data on its performance was shared in the earnings release

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

That still seems like a ton of people that have access to the service and don't use it at all (I'm sure they either just watch the HBO channels or they get it for free and haven't bothered to activate it). I'm not sure I'd be boasting about that. "We give our service away for free (with other stuff) and people are either too confused or too complacent to actually log in!"

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

Like you said, I think a decent chunk of people just subscribe to HBO via cable and that’s enough for them. I know that’s what my parents do. They don’t use anything pertaining to streaming.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

The issue I have as well as my parents it that using app versions is cumbersome compared to cable. Cable bundles everything together in one place. While you can do add-ons to services like Hulu (which we use + Live), my parents don’t like flipping apps. If all HBO Max programs were available through Hulu, there’s no doubt they’d use it more.

It is different, but I can't say it's more cumbersome.

With cable, you have to remember where the HBO channels are then schedule a DVR or catch it live. I don't see that as easier than remembering to open a different app when you want to watch HBO. Now once they are recorded, they are all in one place, so I can kind of understand that if someone doesn't do their own recording.

Or just access via HBO On Demand.
