Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
Any rough estimates on when Roku/Amazon will finally get this?

But I do hope they resolve the impasse sooner rather than later. |
Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
I'm waiting for the pandemic to be lifted. I'm waiting for cops to stop murdering black people. And I'm waiting for a streaming service to open. If one of these things happen within a month's time, I'll find Jesus.

Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
Just sideload it on the Amazon devices, it works fine. You may need Mouse Toggle (another app) but I didn't have an issue. No clue on Roku though.

I really wish they had a auto play next, especially for the Looney Toons stuff. My kids are loving it, but you need to hit play for the next one to start.

What other classic animation are they planning to add in the future? Wouldn't mind Wally Gator and Quick Draw McGraw. |

Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
I’m using the XBox app. I agree, lazy programming indeed.

Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
They still have a lot to fill in on the classics side: Only three Bogart films (granted, great ones in Casablanca, Sierra Madre, and Maltese Falcon), only one of 10 Astaire-Rogers films, and only one James Cagney, and that’s a Busby Berkeley Footlights Parade film.
Granted I know I’m an extreme minority for being interested in this stuff, but if they’re going to highlight TCM Classics and make use of their catalog, they might as well. And these are already on digital services, plus I wouldn’t think they’d run into conflicts with other deals, unless the TCM or Warner Archive services are still around. I haven’t kept up on those. |
Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
Im a pretty huge fan of TCM stuff, but I own just about all of it. So a little less interested on the old classics showing up here.
However I am very interested in how the Warner Archives will be put into this service. |
Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
I opened my iPad yesterday and noticed my HBO Now app had updated to this.

Where did you find the video.....?

Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
Here's a good podcast going over the HBO Max service and suggesting several movies it might be worth your time seeking out. After 30 minutes he talks to the filmmakers of On The Record, which is a documentary that premiered on the service about Russell Simmons alleged sexual harassment victims.

Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
My billing date is next weekend. If there isn't a Roku app by then, I'm going to cancel.

I'm guessing it'll be put on there eventually. I think they need to stabilize the service - and get all the streaming platforms onboard, before they expand. I'm waiting for Not Necessarily the News - for those who remember that one.

1st and Ten is currently on Amazon Prime so I'm sure when that deal expires, it'll show up. I'd love to see the old stuff no matter how badly it ages.

Not to mention that Dream On is likely a licensing nightmare, having to get clearance for all those old film clips. It'd be like the music clearance issues some older shows have on streaming platforms, but worse. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...er_programming |
Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
I wonder if there was no actual HBO licencing deal or ownership prior to Oz. Tales From The Crypt has been available to own on DVD and Digital HD but not under the HBO label.
Edit : Jay basically said what I was getting at while I was posting it. |
Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
Yeah. They must have sold rights. Too bad. Would love this in any definition, especially Dream On. Don’t remember much except Brian Benben, Tv clips and I loved it. Haven’t seen since it was actually airing on HBO, whenever that was. Even Fraggle Rock was theirs they must have sold bc I know you can get in various formats. Good to know about 1st and Ten. Thanks ^. All seasons? Even though ranked towards end, didn’t Burke and most leave?

Don't forget that those shows were made long before internet video streaming was a twinkling in anyone's eye. HBO paid for broadcast rights, and that's all, and those could've potentially expired by now. If those shows weren't originally produced by WB (and many weren't), HBO/WB will have to go back to negotiate streaming rights, and that's only worth it for the really big ones, like The Larry Sanders Show, which was produced by Columbia, so they're just lucky Sony doesn't have its own competing streaming service yet.

BTW, for a time capsule of HBO in the 90s:

Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
I would totally watch Dream On but dont know how well it holds up.
I figure shows like this either have complicated rights or are too old for the service to care about. |
