Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
I haven't read anything yet about it, but I'm guessing all content will be 1080p and not 4K (where available)?
|
Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
Just checked my 2016 Samsung smart TV and indeed the app is there and I installed it.
And yeah it doesn't look like there is any 4K content yet. |
Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
Supposedly it is in the works for the future.
https://www.cnet.com/news/you-cant-w...thats-a-shame/ Still, like with other things, why not have it ready to go at the launch. |

I doubt it (though I haven't tried). On ios it redirects to the app when you go through a browser, and if you force it it won't play anyway. I can't imagine chrome/silk on fire tv will work.
But I guess HBO Max won't work. |
Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
Still can't DL to my Xbox One X.

Yeah, it's been saying this all day, "Something happened on our end. Waiting a bit might help."
|
Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
And of course....I tried again and it installed. Little glitchy on the sign in, but I got in. Now they need to iron out the Roku issue so we can really get going.
|
Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
Kind of bullshit there is no 4k or HDR. What is this, 2017?
|
Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
So this is interesting factoid:
"Wondering how big of a deal this is? In 2019, market research firm Parks Associates said that Roku has 39% of the installed base of streaming media players in the United States, with Amazon Fire TV trailing behind at 30%. That means that somewhere around 69% of streaming media devices in households around the US do not have access to HBO Max." https://www.tomsguide.com/news/hbo-m...whats-going-on I wonder what's included in "streaming media players". I assume not a PC, laptop, or tablet, and maybe not a gaming console either. Probably just things like Roke, FireTV, AppleTV. What else is there? I really wouldn't call a Chromecast a "streaming media player" because to my understanding, it doesn't really "stream" anything. So not as meaningful a stat as it could be. |
Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
The parental controls kind of suck.
When you set up a kid profile, you put their date of birth and the service will restrict what they can watch. However, it doesn't seem to mask all of the titles. For instance, for my youngest, she's too young to watch PG-13, but the tiles still show up for PG-13 movies, it just tells her it's restricted. It would be better I think to just remove them from her profile. Also you can put a passcode on a kids profile so if they want to change profiles they have to enter it. Pretty good. Except when you enter it it doesn't mask the numbers on the screen so the first time you do it and the kid's there, it's plain to see. |

Smooth sailing on the Apple TV.

Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
I don’t understand what’s different? They just have some older Cinemax series’ and new Kendrick one and WB movies and stuff? What’s the big deal?

Friends Reunion show coming. More exclusive series on the way. Snyder Cut. Most importantly, no extra cost, just the same price as HBO. |

No Cinemax. |
Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
Boy do they have a vast amount of Criterion titles, even down to that massive Olympics collection. Yeah, this is a massive library they have here. All the Godzilla films....so much stuff.
|
Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

But like I suggested here, no Criterion licensing or designations. Felt that was too in conflict with the Criterion streaming service to allow.

Which is pretty weird. With Cinemax all but dead, HBO should have incorporated them into Max. I bet some people will be more enticed to sub to HBO Max is they include Cinemax and their library of After Max (Skinemax) films.
They're basically the bastard child of HBO now. |
Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
I watched 3 episodes of the new Looney Toons. They were pretty fun to watch. They run about 12 minutes each.
I also watched the Pilot of the new show Love Life and it was decent. I'll finish the next 2 later. |

Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
I still have Cinemax and they're pretty much the clutch hitter of my bundled streaming media. I have it bundled with HULU for $4.99 per month right now. I also have Starz for $4.99 via HULU.

Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
So if I subscribe to HBO through Optimum do I have this for free? Or if I have Hulu, but not hbo through that.
And I have HBO Go which has all the series’ like Oz, Wire, GoT, etc. What else could I need. If free fine, I’ll check it out, but too much to watch anyway. I’ll try Love Life, but that’s it. |
Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
Yup. Optimum has free. Watching first ep of Friends on android Sony tv. Bit it plays like it’s in real life and I have subtitles that I can’t get off...

Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
Yay. This is fun. Lots of content. Thanks for clearing things up guys.

Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
Fun little channel. Easy navigable menus. Nice HD. Not bad for nothing. Fixed the subs and pic. First Friends looks really good. Nice I got on iPhone and tv. Will try amazon stick tomorrow.
|
Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
I can confirm that I get HBO Max for free with my AT&T fiber internet. I'm impressed with the content selection. Looking forward to watching some HBO shows I always wanted to watch and checking out some of the TCM content as well.

Re: HBO Max Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020
2020 and no setting to disable auto play. -rolleyes- I even looked from the browser like Netflix hides it.
Hobbit and LOTR are the theatrical versions. No extended cuts of BvS and Suicide Squad. -confused- |
