Yep, I barely use HBO Max since my Fire sticks are in the bedroom and I greatly prefer the Roku on my main TV. Not a huge loss right now.

I move my fire stick around from tv to tv plus I have a Toshiba Fire TV.

I should buy another Fire stick since they aren't very expensive.

Same here, but I ditched Firesticks for being so shitty. Roku 100% now.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

I'll need new devices sometime, sure. Not now. I'll need a new car sometime too but I hope to get another 150k miles from mine.
When that time comes, I'll consider the current hardware offerings and convert over. Right now I've got Rokus, smart TVs, and Xbox One I use for streaming services. I'm not going to add multiple iterations of a new element, or switch over, for one streaming service.
I like the Roku interface, my wife likes the TV's interface. Plus, as much money as i spend with Amazon, I'm OK tossing a little to someone else, and from what I've seen, the FireTV interface doesn't look as good/user-friendly to me as Roku's (or even the smart TVs). Amazon Prime Video is the streaming service I like navigating the least, so if it's anything like that, another reason I'm not rushing.
I care enough to complain here :) and to tweet @ HBO once or twice, but not enough to convert over.
I've also only watched one episode of anything on Peacock and converted my free trial paid account to free.
Maybe I'm just overwhelmed - there's no shortage of stuff to watch so I'm willing to jump through fewer hoops.

I am annoyed that it's not on the PS5 since it's been on the PS4 since the service launched.

Yeah, that’s fucking stupid. And more stupid that is still not available on Roku. When the Warnermedia sees that they didn’t reach the projections they had expected with HBOMax, they’ll only have to look in the mirror for who to blame.

So, uh, do I need to delete the sideloaded version or will that just automatically update now? Anyone know?

I would think you'd want to delete it and download the official one.

I have had --zero-- problems with the HBO Max sideload while the Peacock TV sideload has been a pain in my ass.

You should probably download the official app now since it’s available tomorrow. Sideloaded apps will eventually have bugs that can’t be fixed easily. At least now you’ll get officially sanctioned HBO updates.

So you delete the sideloaded app and install this one. Isn’t same app? How do you it’s official?

A sideloaded app is installed via an APK after you jailbreak the device.

The official HBO Max app should be available via the Amazon app store or the HBO app on Amazon will update automatically to HBO Max.

You'll have to install the official app yourself. If you want you can keep both versions active.

Airplay on Roku has been a life-saver. I can get fiber internet with HBO Max for the same price I'm paying for my current internet, so will bite the bullet and change over to that soon- hopefully that'll stop the "shitty internet" people here say I have ;) Want to see if they'll also bundle my landline into one account, still have that since I'm old-fashioned and have also had cell phones die and be without them for a few days, which would've cut me off completely had I not had the landline as a backup.

off topic, but unless you're worried about cell towers ceasing to function or need to fax something, why do you have a landline? And if you do make sure it's not a VoIP landline which will go out as soon as your router does.

If you're worried about cell phones dying, I'd just keep an old phone around to activate in an emergency rather than pay a fee for a line I rarely use and which is probably on a bunch of spammers' lists already.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

We got the Airplay thing to work yesterday, on my wife's iphone (I have an Android).
Apart from that fact that we shouldn't have to do that, I guess it technically worked.
Logging in took a few minutes because 'sign up' or 'sign in', and they had a million providers to scroll through.
Browsing was annoying because while I could see the screen on the phone, it was teeny on the TV and hard for her to see.
Maybe three times while watching something the picture froze/stuttered for a second - sort of like a layer change on a dvd, but a little more so. And twice the TV showed some weird Airplay screen for a few seconds.
I have a long charging cable that was able to stretch from the outlet to the sofa so we didn't use up all her battery.

Anyway, yes, technically it worked. We probably won't use it much because she browses on the streaming service on the TV and not on her phone where you can only see like three things or the website, and it's still more cumbersome than going to a dedicated app.

I'd be ticked if I were paying for it especially if I committed to a year or so. As it is, it's just disappointing and cumbersome.

Yeah, and cancel the land line, don't even bother going with a VoiP either :) I can't recall a time when I had access to VoiP, but didn't have access to cell.

This is pretty big for HBO Max:
https://www.engadget.com/wonder-woma...234420280.html
The next 'Wonder Woman' movie will come to HBO Max at no extra cost on December 25th.

They really need to sort out this Roku disagreement before Christmas for a title this big I would imagine. Too much at stake here.

I get your point, but it would be easier for the average user to have a dedicated app on the Roku. No muss, no fuss so to speak. I'm sure AT&T wants the maximum amount of eyeballs on this on Christmas Day, and the fewer hoops to jump through for the typical end user, the better. Not to mention the publicity benefits on this for both Roku and AT&T. It is great that the Airplay option is now available for most Roku owners though.

Also hoping for the Roku app. Can't airplay from an Android or Win10 Laptop.

Now that it's available for the Fire Stick, I can seriously look at free trials. I've never used one so I have some stupid, wishful questions:

1. HBO Max has a 7-day free trial. I imagine they're not stackable?
2. I got a 14-day free trial when I purchased Joker 4k. I imagine I can't use that one now and this one later? (I'm looking at you, Wonder Woman 1984 and Justice League Snyder Cut).
3. I don't have multiple payment methods to create another account, fyi.

Of course HBO Max is going to work out a deal with Roku now...they want as many new subscribers as possible by December 25, and not having a deal with Roku is just throwing money out the window.

I'm confused. Is this the trailer or the actual premiere? There's no way this is the premiere. Just to throw it up with no trailer or promotion. I'm guessing trailer.

Edit: Okay, I think I get it. It's not the premiere. No way it could be. They are revealing Starfire's new outfit.

Yes it’s the new HBO Max series, not HBO with Kaley Cuoco. They posted the first episode as a preview on YouTube, but not on the app. It comes out officially on Thanksgiving.

Cool, I hope they start offering a lot of their titles in 4K. It’s just lame to not even have the blockbusters.
