It's also that the powers that be in all companies that have ventured to streaming see that it was easier and with higher profit margins to license these films to companies like Netflix and Hulu than to run a streaming service themselves. These people thought that running their own streaming service would be akin to releasing their own DVDs and they've found out that's not the case.

Friends HBO Max reunion is still delayed. Apparently they want to shoot it on the old Friends set, but obviously can't right now. And they don't want to shoot it on Zoom.

Makes sense. A Zoom reunion would suck and they paid a fortune for the cast to return.

Can't they put the Friends cast into quarantine for 2 weeks while having them tested? For what they're probably getting paid, they should all agree to it.

They want them to sit comfortably on the set together, not 6 feet apart and such. I think they're going to wait until there's a vaccine. So don't expect this until next year.

They want to shoot in front of a live studio audience.

I guess we’ll see it sometime in 2022 at earliest unless audience could mean 100 or so...

I thought the Parks and Rec reunion worked well via Zoom... Friends I'd rather they wait until they can do it as intended. I'm in no rush.

Why is this Friends reunion on this streaming and not Peacock since NBC show? Whoever lost the rights to that one sure missed out...

Warner Bros owns the show, not NBC. And HBO Max paid a truck load of cash to get the rights.

Peacock has Cheers and that's owned by CBS/Paramount but was originally shown on NBC.

That has very little to do with it. Friends is a much more valuable IP than Cheers. HBO paid a very generous $425M for the rights for 5 years. It's still one of the most watched and streamed shows. Plus, HBO paid for a very expensive reunion special.

Peacock paid $500M for the rights to The Office to take it back from Netflix. They obviously thought The Office was more valuable to them than Friends.

It was the right move. I think The Office is a better long term investment than Friends.

I like friends, but it's just an ok re-watch for me, my daughters Love it though.. I bought the complete series on Vudu as well, and happy to have it on both platforms.

I also bought the Office a few months ago... I gave the Office a rest and have not watched any repeats since original airing and just started the re-watch and am enjoying it immensely, in times like these it's Michael Scott to the rescue!

HBOMax will probably lose Crunchyroll content. Kilar wants to sell it off.

i love Friends, but it jumped the shark once Monica and Chandler got engaged, starting S7, i believe. it went completely downhill from there for some reason. nothing to do their relationship, just the quality of show and writing dipped considerably after that fantastic 2-part proposal season ender (6).

So according to Jim Lee, expect DC Universe video content to migrate over here.

DC Universe will just be a comics/community platform in the future.

I'm fine with that as long as they lower the price when they remove most of the content.

Wonder what will happen to the remaining months for those of us on annual subscriptions to DC Universe.

Awesome! I get anyway, but love HBO Max and will love to see the DC stuff I’ve been meaning to get to. It’s a lot, but I really am glad I didn’t cut the cord...

Newb question ... is there any benefit to having HBO anymore? Any delayed shows? Or is this the new standard? Price seems cheap.

You mean vs HBO Max? As far as I know, HBO Max has everything HBO/Go/Now has, plus more. There's nothing that's delayed from HBO, at least nothing that's not also delayed from appearing on Go/Now. Maybe something like Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is delayed, showing up the next day, but that happens with Go & Now as well.

Fresh Prince of Bel Air 30th Anniversary reunion special coming to HBO Max around Thanksgiving.

It's being filmed next week.

You get HBO Max with HBO (for the most part, though it's confusing). I would definitely check first before cancelling and resubbing to Max only (unless it's actually cheaper).

I guess they’re really banking on these reunions. I have zero interest in this or the Friends one.
