SHOCKED - Sling TV has fox news now? when?
I woke up early this morning and suddenly fox news was there... does anyone know when this happened? Apologies but I prefer not to debate the trump garbage having to do with fox news ... I just enjoy the way they deliver general news and am excited to see its there but am afraid it is only temporary ...
Does anyone have any news or links they can point me to as to when this happened?
Thanks tons,
PCN

Dang, just got the email from Sling that they are increasing prices. I'll probably cancel and try Youtube TV instead.

Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
Been happy with Sling for nearly 2 years, but over the past year I've come to realize that the only thing I watch is On Demand shows (movies and TV-like series on Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc) and Sports. In fact, the only live programming of any type that I'm interested in is Sports - Hockey, Football, and the NCAA tournament in March. Sling TV did what I wanted, and you still can't beat it during the NFL season (lowest tier Blue service plus $10/month for Sports add-on gets you NFL Red Zone) but with football season over it's time to reevaluate.
I had a 1-year Hulu "trial" for $0.99/mo, but not only could I not stand commercials, I discovered that the network programming just didn't appeal to me either... I'm definitely not the target demographic for that. I'm giving YouTubeTV a tryout right now. It'll be $50/mo after my 2-week trial lapses, but with the Sling price bump it turns out that the prices are nearly identical (particularly if I want ESPN).... but YTTV also gets me the local Indy stations, Fox Sports Ohio and Fox Sports Indiana (both of which Sling lost this year). So I get access to more sports channels, including the Blues and MLB's Reds, for roughly the same price as Sling.
The nice thing about the streamers is that you can try one out for a while, then move back if you don't like it. No long-term contracts, no financial commitment beyond the current 30-day period.

BTW - I hate that this is buried in this thread, but if anyone (like me) wants to compare service and their prices, based on the channels YOU want/need, there's a website that can help.
Suppose.TV
You select the channels you want, provide your location (if local channels are a thing you're interested in), and the site will go through all of the Major and Minor streaming services and their add-on packages, and present you a list from least-expensive on up that will either cover all of your needs or come closest. They also list any deals that are being offered by each service. Give it a shot.

Some questions about Sling
After two back-to-back bumps to DirecTV took us up to almost $150 per month when we watch only a few channels, something in me snapped. I found the AirTV DVR that'll let me combine OTA and streaming channels into one interface (which is a must-have, my wife would not be happy if I told her for some channels, use this app, for others, go over here ) So I signed up for Sling and am waiting on my DVR to come. I use Fire devices (various Sticks, an old-school Fire Box, I have a Fire Cube I need to set up, and one "smart" TV with built-in Fire) to watch.
1) When fast-forwarding through commercials in recorded programs, it seems very flaky. Press FF once, twice, maybe three times; and it slowly creeps ahead. Pres it again, and it enters Turbo mode, so by the time I notice the show has started and hit play, I'm a minute or two in and need to rewind. How do we get a reasonable FF? Either a 30 second skip, or some predictable speed, or have it know to back up a little when I hit play (DirecTV DCR does this!)
2) Is there a way to have favorite channels (not "My Channels") or re-order the channel guide? I use "My Channels" to show only the ones I care about. I'd like to be able to quickly find the channels we watch most frequently.
3) "Sub-users" - I'd like to be able to have different displayed channels on different sets.
4) Is there a way to tell the DVR to only save n episodes of a given show (again, like DirecTV can!) Example: we like to have a handful of Big Bang Theories recorded. But I don't want BBT to record over and over and over, filling up my 50 hours of DVR and then crowding everything else out. Record let's say 5 episodes, and maybe roll off the oldest for the newest, but never take up more than 2.5 hours.
5) Speaking of... anyone have any idea when we can get more DVR time beyond 50 hours? That isn't much! My DirecTV DVR can hold hundreds of hours. Cloud storage is nearly literally the cheapest thing on Earth.
6) Is there a mechanism once my AirTV is in for it to know to use an OTA version of a show instead of a cloud/streaming version? Let's say I want every episode of BBT... I can plug in a 6TB hard disk and let that DVR stuff itself to the gills, but to never see a single episode appear in the cloud DVR.

Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
Just like they did like 13 years ago, Dish and Disney have gotten into another contract dispute and removed all Disney channels including all ESPN channels, FX, FXX, Freeform and so on from their service without any warning to the customers

Now that every major company has a streaming app it's time for them to leave cable behind.
