I also think UPN was, at least intended to be, a regular network like Fox that attached itself to local independent channels, and not a syndication package like PTEN (which had Babylon 5). I could be wrong, though, as I remember Voyager being shown on the Fox affiliate in the area that also ran TNG; I don't recall if they aired other UPN programs, or if it was just a deal for Voyager since there wasn't a UPN affiliate in my area or a independent channel they could affiliate with.

What's in the Paramount animation library that would be available with their streaming service?

The Nickelodeon library.

Which they've parsed out to other services, including having an exclusive deal with Netflix to develop new shows in addition to their existing shows.

But that's ok because they also own Comedy Central so they have South Park. Oh wait they licensed that and a bunch of other Comedy Central shows to HBO Max.

It's hard for me to take them seriously as an A-level streaming service when they just take the leftovers of their own product.

They (Viacom) should just admit that this was a mistake and go back to Netflix.

Still HBO Max, Disney Max, and Peacock are superior streaming options than Paramount.

UPN was an awful network from its inception. The special "SmackDown!" episode of Voyager nearly ruined Star Trek for me. I can't believe this is going to do anything but tank under the Paramount name.

They should just call it, We Have You Trekkies By the Balls and Know You'll Pay Whatever We Demand of You.

Such BS that episode 2 of Star Trek: Discovery is on the CBS app, but not yet available for those who are subscribed to it as an Amazon channel. The only reason I even subscribed this way is because the CBS app was so broken last year that I had to cancel midway through the season and switch over to Amazon.

I'm mixed on the name change.

The re-brand it kind of stupid, as I THINK most people know what CBS Access is by now and have an understanding of what is offered on there. It's like starting again from scratch in terms of branding, but who knows what goes through the minds of these corporate types. I hope this means the addition of everything (or a lot) from the Paramount film library without losing anything CBS Access already offers in terms of catalog stuff.

They should have named it Paramount All Access instead. Incorporate part of the current name, but rebrand so it’s known to be all of Paramount including CBS.

Kinda surprised that NBC Universal didn’t do the same with Peacock. Rather than having it named after an NBC namesake they should have incorporated Universal in the name. I’m sure they’ll be next to do a streaming platform at some point. Also the same with WB and HBO Max. I feel like they only used HBO in the name because HBO is popular, but WB has a rich library beyond just HBO content.

I said it before but the only reason this might be necessary is if they want to pivot away from just having CBS stuff and are going to add a bunch of other things. Because the vast majority of things added to this are Star Trek or CBS shows.

I’m sure at some point the goal all of the major studios is to have their own streaming platforms, and most likely take back the content they have licensed out to Netflix or Hulu or wherever and put it onto their own services. Kind of makes sense, but it’s not very consumer friendly.

I don't know, some of these companies seem to want to have it both ways.

HBO Max continually loses content that it should by all rights keep, stuff like DC movies or even those direct to video cartoons.
Nickelodeon, which is owned by the same parent company as CBS, made a deal with Netflix right before the merger (which had been coming for a while). Lots of new shows are going to be on Netflix, and most of the Nick content CBS All Access has is shared with Netflix. It's one of my major complaints about this service, there is very little that is exclusive besides Trek.

Sure some of these are probably long ranging contracts from before the internal streaming services gained traction, but I do think a lot of the HBO Max stuff is just them trying to get some extra money instead of forming one service with all their content exclusively. This is opposed to Disney which seems to gobble up stuff as soon as the licenses expire.
