re: Amazon Fire TV Streaming Devices

Amazon just released the next gen of Fire TVs.

The standard Amazon Fire TV is still $99.99. It's been upgraded with 4K support, Alexa voice search (similar to Amazon Echo), a more powerful processor, better WiFi, and MicroSD storage up to 128 GB.

The new Amazon Fire TV Gaming Edition is $139.99. It's the same box as the standard model, but it includes a game controller, two games (Shovel Knight and Duck Tales), and a 32Gb MicroSD card. For some reason, it doesn't include the standard remote, which is stupid. I guess they expect people to use the game controller as a remote. If you want the regular remote, that's a $29.99 add-on.

The new Amazon Fire TV Stick is $39.99 with basic remote and $49.99 with voice remote. The voice remote will include the Alexa search features. I don't think there's any other major improvements (no 4K or expandable storage).

Re: Amazon Fire TV Stick

The 2016/Current Gen of these things are a massive step up over the first gen models I had. Pretty great for the $30 they're going for.

Is VUDU finally back on? Or do they still only offer Flixster only?

What does Amazon Fire have that Roku doesn't carry?

Some of the games are pretty neat- I got a few free pinball games on it.

I prefer the Roku 3 over the fire stick but the newer fire sticks perform well for the price point, plus they run a few more games (and emulators) and apps (such as Kodi and AT&Ts Uverse app) since they're android based.

Still no Vudu or really any UltraViolet support though, which is lame.

Re: Amazon Fire TV Stick

Bought another Fire Stick during Black Friday sale. I have a first generation one which is getting slower and rebooting periodically, hope the performance of the new stick is much better. Plan to use this primarily for Kodi, don't really need anything else when you have that installed.

Re: Amazon Fire TV Stick

I have one Amazon Fire Stick and if I buy another one,do they automatically link together?

Another thing, will it be a problem using 2 Amazon Fire Sticks in the same room because the remote might control both at the same time?

I don't know about Amazon, but I have 2 Rokus in the same room and have separate remotes each uniquely tied to their Roku. And the Rokus are tied to the same e-mail account.

You pair the remote with a specific stick, so as long as you have separate remotes for each stick there shouldn't be an issue.

Not sure what you mean by linking together, but if they are both registered to the same Amazon account they will both show the same watch lists, etc. (not sure about apps though)

I also have 2 Roku's(first version) in the same room but both use the same remote but there isn't a problem since the remote needs to be pointed in the direction of the Roku or it won't work.

Re: Amazon Fire TV Stick

I just ordered a bunch of HDMI adapters from Amazon to cover my ass should two sticks fairly close together won't work separately with a remote. I could always put the new one in the kitchen(use with 18 ft hdmi cable) which is just a hop skip and a jump from the living room.

Re: Amazon Fire TV Stick

You can use the smartphone app to control them individually, otherwise you'll have to use two separate remotes since these are HDMI sticks which are intended to be hidden behind the TV, they work via Bluetooth and not line of sight IR.

Re: Amazon Fire TV Stick

For Fire TV, is it usable without being connected to the router? Is everything in 4K?

Is the Fire TV worth it without the Kodi add-on?

Re: Amazon Fire TV Stick

Its just Another solid device to stream amazon prime, Netflix, hbo go etc.

If you have personal photos and personal video in the amazon cloud, its great. It has some decent app add ons, but if you have a roku its prob not necessary.

Re: Amazon Fire TV Stick

Biggest minus about the FireTV is there's nothing that supports UltraViolet on it, so if you have any number of movies on that you're screwed. I have a FireTV, Chromecast and several Rokus and use the FireTV about the least often, even with Kodi on it (quality is usually too bad to bother with, even for free.)
