Amazon Expands Prime Video Downloads to iOS and Android Platforms

Amazon today announced that Prime members in the U.S., U.K., Germany and Austria will now be able to download movies and TV episodes, including award-winning Amazon Original Series, to iPhones, iPads and Android phones and tablets for offline viewing, at no additional charge. Amazon Video is the only online subscription streaming video service that enables downloads of titles, meaning unlike other subscription streaming services such as Netflix, Prime members can enjoy movies and TV shows as part of their membership even when they don’t have an internet connection available. For more information and to download the app, visit http://www.amazon.com/GetAndroidVideo and http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1003016691.

Google TV wasn't terrible and lasted well longer than I woulda guessed. I had one for a while, the hardware simply wasn't there at the time.

But I'm also of the mind that there is a changing of the guard every 2 years and expect it, which GTV well outlasted, but I understand that some people buy a device and expect it to last a decade minimum.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

For the life of me I can't seem to figure out the downloading. I have a Lenovo Tab2 A8 running Lollipop and I see no way to download a video. The app itself just links to the web browser to start a video, then switches back to the app once you hit play. I tried doing it though chrome and the Android browser and I don't see any "download" button of any kind.

And why isn't there an Amazon app right from the Play store anyway?

Also, if you want a dose of low budget gory 80s nostalgia ridiculousness, Turbo Kid is on Prime Streaming:

Hey, I figured it out for anyone else having this issue.
You have to uninstall the Instant Video app and install the new app from the Amazon App store. Once I did that the download buttons appeared.

Just a clarification, you description about the comedy about sexism in the voice over industry is referencing the move "In a World..."

Ah, I was going to say I don't remember Lake Bell directing Space Jam.

Amazon is having a one day discount for new Prime subscriptions to celebrate their Emmy wins for Transparent. The price will be reduced to $67 and it will be on Friday.

Anyone know if you could buy a season with an account and then gift it to a primary account that already has a prime sub? If I could extent my current Prime with this, that would be great.

They've closed that loophole this time.

That deal will almost certainly get Mr. Robot renewed for two more seasons even if the ratings tank.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

how come you can't rent some of the new movies on AP, only option is to buy?

like Spy and Entourage for instance are only available to buy, but i was able to rent Dope...

Amazon Prime isn't a rental service, only subscription streaming.

But to answer your question, Amazon Video has movies available for purchase first, then rental, and you'll probably see the same window across all other services unless someone gets an exclusive. All of the pre-DVD offers are pretty much guaranteed to be purchase only, but there can be some variation on when the rental window opens up.

FWIW, I'm seeing Dope as purchase only on Amazon.

Dope was a mistake, it doesn't even release until tomorrow. Movies get released "for sale" 3 weeks or so prior to their physical disc release, at which point they are available for rent as well.

It's part of the "digital push", sort of like a mini anti-rental phase.

Occasionally you'll see a "Available at the same time as Theaters", those are usually rentable for $6.99 - $9.99.

The Rpime downloads doesn't seem to work for the entire Prime catalogue. The Woman in Black (Daniel Radcliffe) is one instance of it I've run across.

I was wondering the same thing, but I'm assuming there isn't. I just noticed that Parks and Recreation disappeared today.

Amazon Prime to Exclusively Stream 'Back to the Future' Trilogy

Amazon Prime is making it easy for Back to the Future fans to watch the trilogy ahead of Oct. 21, 2015, the exact date that Marty McFly and Doc Brown traveled to in the second film.

Starting Thursday, Oct. 1 and for the month of October, all three Back to the Future films will be available to stream by Prime Instant Video subscribers in the U.S.

Amazon's deal, which makes its Prime service the exclusive subscription streaming home for the trilogy, comes as the first film continues to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its release. The deal also marks the first time all three films are available on a subscription streaming service for unlimited viewing.

The three films are also available for purchase on Amazon Instant Video and on iTunes, which also offers all three films for purchase in a bundle, starting at $21.99.
