Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
Oh, and before you gripe, if you don't have a blu ray reader/burner, you can buy one from Amazon for $40. it'll save you a lot of money rather than paying full price for movies you already have.

thanks tres, but seems like a hassle...

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
I transferred at least 100 Blu-Ray's to VUDU with the VUDUToGo app. I have a BR player on my desktop.
I'm addicted too Oldboy....absolutely love the ability to have all (or alot) of my movies at my fingertips. I'm still occasionally buying actual discs...but that may be over soon. Up to 474 icons on VUDU...with multiple movies on some...I'm guessing I have around 600 total in my library. I love the layout of VUDU. My only complaint is I'd like to be able to move the icons around to put things in some better order. |

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
Put Blu Ray into tray...repeat 10X....cost = $20...vs. $8-$13 or more per movie.
10 discs and the player would pay for itself. What I have been doing is buying VUDU movies that I don't have on Blu-Ray...older regular DVD's and such. I don't even want to know what I've paid VUDU in the last 12 months... |

Wait...can I take a Bluray movie that I own and put it into my Vudu? Can you just list steps and tell me what I need to buy...

You said you did some by disc to digital, so I assume you're familiar with the process for DVD's. It's exactly the same for Blu-ray. You just need a Blu-ray drive on your computer. So that means you could buy one to replace your internal drive if you have a desktop, or you can get a USB one if you have a laptop or don't want to replace your existing drive. Doing D2D for a Blu-ray is cheaper, because it's only costs $2 for a BD instead of $5 for a DVD. And if you put at least 10 titles in a D2D order, you get a 50% discount. So, it could be as cheap as $1 per movie for titles that you already own on Blu-ray. (Additionally, if you really want to get into it, you can buy VUDU credits on the secondary market for about 50% off, making your nominal cost $0.50 per title.) Here are a couple options for a drive: http://www.amazon.com/Blu-Ray-Player.../dp/B009661Y8G http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics.../dp/B007YWMCA8 |
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
If you don't want to bother with the software and Bluray drive, there's an In-Store option.
http://www.vudu.com/disc_to_digital.html I prefer the At Home version. The In Store option doesn't have a 50% discount. And most WalMart employees don't know anything about the In Store conversions. |

That doesn't work with a Mac does it?

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
But since I have a Mac - do I still need to get an external Blu-ray player/burner for the program to read it or can it extract the data just by popping the BD in to the disc drive?
I should know this shit but it never entered my mind to use the D2D service at all. |
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
The program requires a Blu-ray drive to read the Blu-ray disc in order to verify that you have the disc in your possession.
Just like a CD drive cannot read DVD discs, a DVD drive cannot read Blu-ray discs. You must have a Blu-ray drive. No Mac has ever shipped with a Blu-ray drive, so you will need to buy one. Whether that is an internal or external one, depends on how comfortable you are with opening your computer and replacing it. |

Download Vudu's app for free from their website. They have a "disc-to-digital" section. You can convert a DVD to SD for $2 or HDX for $5, and a Blu-ray to HDX for $2. Just put the disc into the drive, open the section of the app, and that's all. If you do more than 10, they'll give you a 50% discount, so DVDs can become HDX for $2.5 and Blus for $1. The downside is that you get what you get; if anyone doesn't participate in disc-to-digital and you'd like to convert your disc, you're boned, and Vudu rarely update it anymore. Still, it's a great deal on what's there.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
Can the first five Planet of the Apes blu-ray movies be converted using the D2D program?
|
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
Yes, I've personally converted them.

They also rarely fix the unidentifiable discs. So if the software doesn't recognize the disc, your only option is to take it to Walmart. |
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
For anyone that's wondering when Vudu will make an AppleTV app, here's some info from Jake (VUDU Engineering):
True Airplay streaming with HD for iOS & ATV are in the works for 2016. I imagine a full Apple TV app will happen eventually but it's not as much of a priority given that Apple basically prevents 3rd parties from selling movies in their apps. |

I think hanshotfirst1138 meant that they don't update the movie list anymore. In the past 2 years, they've only added a handful of new titles and no new studios have joined. So if it isn't currently eligible, don't expect them to add it.
