Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
A couple of quick hits:
(1) Yesterday at WalMart, I found a rack of $4.97 Blu-Ray Chick Flicks (stuff like The Bodyguard and Ghost, etc). Each of them come with a $5.00 Vudu Credit sticker on the outside of the case. The promotion registers online as "WB - Valentine's Day 2015 TCAT DVD - $5.00 Movie Credit" and the codes all begin with "VLFT". They expire on 3/31/2015 (barely 2 months from now) and you can redeem up to five VFLT codes within the same Vudu account. The Vudu credit is greater than the cost of the movie, so if any of the movies interest you it's like getting them for free. The rack was an endcap facing the back of the store. (2) At that same WalMart, I found the MGM Exclusive "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" in the $7.96 Blu-Ray dumping bin. Several copies. The movie redeemed via InstaWatch (HDX) and came with a redemption code inside the case for a 2nd digital copy. It's a Digital Double Dip. |

I think that is where it's eventually headed. Amazon could implement a similar program very easily, though they aren't a UV provider.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
Found out the "bonus features" for the "Saw" movie set are free- just do a title search for "Saw: Bonus Features" and it should come right up.
Doing a search for "featurette" you can also watch a few extras for other movies that you would normally have to buy to get, but the one for "Saw" is a free purchase. |

In case anyone missed it in the HD Talk section:
Vudu has added the Star Wars movies. They should be available for purchase on April 10th. http://www.vudu.com/movies/#uiPage/102 All of them (except for A New Hope) are Disney Movies Anywhere compatible. It looks like you can buy the movies individually, or in a bundle with all 6. http://i.imgur.com/1JrYyd4.jpg |

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
There are about 100+ catalog titles that have dropped their price down to $9.99 (HDX). Looks like it's all from 20th Century Fox.
I can't find the link on the Vudu website. But on the Roku, go to Deals and there's a banner at the bottom of the page. Here's a partial list: Castaway Romeo & Juliet (DiCaprio/Danes) Romancing the Stone Jewel of the Nile The Hustler (beware this is 1.33:1 pan-n-scan, OAR is 2.35:1) Ravenous The Newton Boys Bulworth Hoffa X-Files: Fight the Future Two Girls and a Guy Anna and the King Barton Fink Down Periscope The Fly (1958) High Anxiety Legend of Hell House License to Drive Lifeboat (Hitchcock) The Man with One Red Shoe Modern Problems Quills Shining Through I think most of these are D2D eligible. |

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
Given the sales of physical media right now, I doubt that they'll need much pushing.

Because they're intentionally crippling sell-thru media by releasing movies on digital first- same thing that happened with some movies on DIVX months before they were on standard DVD. I get that buying movies that way works for some people, but I simply refuse to and resent being "pushed" towards it like that.
The digital release is an attempt to "Curb Piracy" which in turn just makes nicer copies available for the bootlegging masses, but at the prices they charge I don't believe it really makes that big of a difference in actual sell through, platforms like iTunes and Vudu are just getting newer movies on a time schedule similar to Hotels and Airplanes now, and at a premium. Even the most staunch "GO DIGITAL!" fanboy has to balk at spending $20 for digital only copies that are often included for free with the blu-ray/retail release. I personally think they have it backwards and should re-initiate a 1 month "rental phase" for digital releases instead of selling them only. |
