Is there a link as to the details of how it works? Would the other people have authority to charge rentals to your account? Or do you just have access to each other's UV titles? I currently have close to 250

Found my own answer. From Vudu's site.

A great part of owning movies and TV shows is sharing your collection. You can help your parents understand why everyone now “volunteers as tribute,” or get your roommate to finish watching Breaking Bad so he finally understands all the references.
Sharing is a great way to get the most value from your collection, introduce people to some great movies and TV shows, and even become a little closer as family and friends.
That’s why we’re excited to launch Share My Movies by VUDU—a new feature that lets you easily and safely share your UltraViolet movies and TV shows.

Share My Movies lets you invite up to five people to join and watch your Library of UltraViolet movies and TV shows. You only need a VUDU account and an UltraViolet Library to start. (Both are free and signing up takes only seconds).

Share My Movies is a safer way to share because the people you invite get their own username and password. You never have to give out yours. This means you can get the most value out of your purchases, show off your collection AND never have to worry about accidental purchases or changes to your account.
And since invited users watch through their own VUDU accounts, they can use their favorite devices without it counting toward your VUDU device limit. They can download or stream your movies and shows on just about any device—from a smartphone to a smart TV. Share My Movies also supports up to three simultaneous streams, so you can watch together, even when apart.

And the best part of Share My Movies is that it’s free. No extra fees, no subscriptions (or subscription tiers) and no limit on number of viewings. Thousands of UltraViolet movies and TV shows are already available to own and share, and more are added all the time.
Share My Movies by VUDU is open to all users, so invite your friends and family to discover VUDU and your collection of digital movies and TV shows.

Seems pretty cool that way you can save on purchasing UV codes. The people in the circle take turns buying movies and we all get them.

There's a discussion going on in the Vudu Support Forum, but it doesn't give many answers.

I could be wrong, but it's starting to sound like two Vudu user's can't share their libraries with each other. It's just one person sharing his library. That original person won't get access to his friend's collection.

You can only have one UltraViolet Library linked to a VUDU account at any time. When accepting an invitation and joining the UltraViolet Library of another user, any UltraViolet Library currently linked to the VUDU account will be unlinked.
As one of the other Vudu techs says:

Honestly, it is a bit confusing....
I guess we won't know until someone actually tries it out.

Anyone try it out yet? I sent out a couple invites yesterday and they took about 8 hours to arrive. One friend couldn't accept because he already had five UV shares active. If anyone wants to try it and then feel free to delete me and my paltry library, just email me thru this forum. Same email is my Vudu account.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

I've been sharing my account with two people for several months, and nothing has changed from their side. They still can't see non-UV titles that I have in my collection, which is kind of a bummer.

They give me their codes, and I have almost 500 titles now, so it works out well for both sides.

You have to be careful, apparently you are limited to how many times one can switch UV accounts per VUDU account to be linked to each year. It's a small number like two times per calender year, which is a terrible limitation. People really should go through the FAQ more, before blindly jumping into this arrangement.

Thanks PS. My head hurts reading their forum.

I understood that as if you invite someone they can see your library but to see theirs they would have to invite you as well.

If anyone is brave enough to go into a Walmart and get one of the newly released MGM BDs with Vudu codes - let us all know what the extra offer is!

I think it's a 50% off coupon or something.

Well, I don't know what the "special offer" is, but I'm certainly happy to see Hoosiers has made it to Vudu. :)

It's a shame I already own every single one of those movies, VUDU codes would have been nice for them.

Well.. there's an aftermarket somewhere for Vudu codes. It's been a while since I used it, but there may be folks who are interested only in the media and who would be happy to unload their Vudu codes for a few bucks.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

If you're interested in Robocop AND Terminator, you may want to hold off... in a $7.88 BIN yesterday I found both of them as a "double feature" in a single Blu case that included an HDX Vudu download of one of them - I *believe* the code was for Robocop but can't swear to it. $7.88 beats $9.00.

kenbuzz 05-23-14 11:45 AM

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

According to a post on a different site, the "Walmart Exclusive Offer" that's included is a code for 50% off all other Vudu-only MGM movies (which appears to be the same list of 20 titles as in the in-store display). HD/HDX for those are $13.99, so it would mean they'd be $7 each.

So it looks like the deal is:

$9 for any of the following BluRay titles (which include an HDX Vudu copy and the 50% code),
or $6 for any of the following SD titles (which include an SD Vudu copy and the 50% code):

Hoosiers
Bull Durham
Chitty^2 Bang^2
Dances With Wolves
Delta Force
Great Escape
Hang 'Em High
Hoosiers
It's A Mad^4 World
Platoon
Princess Bride
Red Dawn
Road House
Rob Roy
Robocop
Rocky
Silence Of The Lambs
Spaceballs
Terminator
Usual Suspects
West Side Story
or Hoosiers

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

(Gosh, seems like I'm taking over this thread).

Just checked the Vudu "purchase" prices for these 20 titles. All of them are $10 for SD and $14 for HD/HDX (which would be $5 and $7 respectively with the coupon) EXCEPT for the following:

- Bull Durham, Dances With Wolves, and Usual Suspects are NOT AVAILABLE
- Red Dawn and Road House appear to have pricing errors. They show up at $14 HDX, $10 HD, $14 SD. So if 720p is acceptable, you could purchase the HD version of this with the MGM coupon for $5.

All of this presumes that the coupon as described IS what's in the packaging material. Also, it presumes that the MGM titles the coupon is good for are the same titles that are now in WalMart for $9. Guess I'll need to stop by a local store and buy Hoosiers to see for myself.

If only MGM and Disney titles went UV. I can understand Disney dragging their feet, but why MGM?

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

I've had a very frustrating experience so far using the disc-to-digital software. So far, of the dozen or so discs I've scanned, only two of them have been recognized. Many of the discs I bought second-hand, and I suspect they were originally rentals (although they don't have the RENTAL label on the disc or sleeve). The good thing is the software saves what I've scanned in, so I don't have to worry about losing my work.

Anyone else having trouble using the software?

TheBigDave 05-24-14 07:36 PM

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

What are the titles you're having trouble with? Are you sure they're eligible for D2D?

I've done hundreds of D2D at home. I'd say less than 10% of eligible discs have a problem. Maybe closer to 5%.

Anything released in the past year or so usually doesn't work with the software. And the Columbia/Tristar DVDs almost never work.

funkyryno 05-25-14 01:49 PM

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

I did try to convert a lot of recent releases, which is probably the problem. The software just says something like "There's an error reading your disc." Which wasn't very helpful.

How do you tell if a disc is eligible? The software, obviously, isn't very helpful for me.

It's been a long time since I did any HD2D... is it still 50% off for batches of 10 or more?
