Has anyone else been wary about buying content on VUDU since it became obvious Walmart is intending to sell? I applied for Beta testing but they didn't ask any screening questions. I did Beta testing for them a few years ago but it was kinda lame; you had to watch selected movies which you first paid for and then were reimbursed, and basically just reported any problems with the playback dropping out which I didn't have.

I don't get many Vudu emails. Maybe once or twice a month.
I'm a little concerned about it, ultimately the streaming company has all the control. I can still play discs on my DVD player. But if I get a deal on something streaming, I still buy it. |

Yes, and the Simpsons Stark Raving Dad episode, and the porn that Vudu used to have (whether or not you like porn isn't the issue, it's the fact that someone else didn't like it and removed it rather than letting you decide for yourself) and the version of Star Wars that just got changed. Meanwhile all my video discs still play as they always did.

I definitely understand the need for an actual non-DRM or owned copy of stuff though, don't get me wrong, but that was an odd example in this case. It's a platform that seems to argue piracy has its place. |

I still don't know how they actually store material. If it's decided that something should never be seen anymore but they keep it on the servers for those who already "bought" it, how safe is it really? Does anyone go through the files and see something like that and say "Oh, that shouldn't be there" and delete it?

Yeah, it's one thing if a company decides they don't want to sell something anymore (example, porn); or if they lose the rights/license to sell or rent it. But the consumer should always have access to to the content he's "bought" (and yes I know there's fine print on all the services that negate that).

OK Vudu, this is cool
Today, Vudu is launching two new rental programs to give digital video renters more freedom when finding their next favorite movie. Vudu’s Rental Redo Program will allow a Vudu customer to request “redo” if they are dissatisfied within the first 30 minutes of starting their rental, which would be given in the form of a Vudu credit towards another rental of equal price. This offer is valid for customers who rent from Vudu or Digital Video by Vudu. Customers will be limited to 4 Rental Redo credits a month and must stop watching the rental within 30 minutes of starting it in order to receive the credit. Vudu’s Rental Price Match will give customers confidence that they’re getting the best value on their rental. It will allow a Vudu customer to call and request a Vudu credit if they purchase a rental on Vudu & Digital Video by Vudu, and then find a lower rental price offered by Amazon and/or iTunes. Vudu would match the lower rental price found and give the customer the difference in credits to use towards a future Vudu rental or purchase. |

DTV movies are going to react by front-loading the cool stuff, then at the 31 minute mark the movie becomes a turgid bore.
I imagine this only works on titles longer than 30 minutes. |

Oh boy- the only time I'd request a "redo" is if something technical was wrong. You used to be able to see the first 2 minutes of EVERYTHING for free, which was great- you could spot things that were in the wrong ratio, wrong sound and also get a heads-up on new HD transfers that replaced the original studio openings with current ones (Warner has been awful about this) so you could avoid buying them on disc.
