Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

Not sure if it will be of any interest to anyone, but I heard Jerry Seinfeld on the "Smartless" podcast this week say that he's done with "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" - so there will be no future seasons of that (he's currently directing his Pop Tart movie, "Unfrosted," which I believe is going to be a Netflix film).

Loved the series, but he had pretty much talked to every relevant comedian, so not surprised it is over

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

Fyi, the third The Princess Switch film starring the national treasure that is Vanessa Hudgens airs this Friday (11/19). Am I laying it on a bit thick? Lol. I googled the Netflix trailer for the film and as a commenter in the YouTube comments sections for the trailer noted, the best part of the trailer (and maybe the film) is when one of Hudgen's characters goes Meow to you, and Hudgen's husband (or husband to be) goes “Meow to you as well." This takes place at around the 49 second mark. Too lazy to include a link, but easy enough to get to by googling.

Tis the season to enjoy the heck out of films like this one.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

If you need a new streaming device, Google is running the same promo they did last year. The new Chromecast with Google TV with 6 months of Netflix for $89.99. The credit works out to be like $83.94 in Netflix credit, so you basically are paying $6 for a streaming device. You are limited to 3. Good deal if you already pay for Netflix anyway.

Link here: https://store.google.com/config/chro...gle_tv_netflix

Edit: looks like it is out of stock right now but I imagine it will be in and out through the end of the year.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

That's currently the best device for Netflix also. If you use the Chromecast function and control from your phone, movies will play with full end credits and NO pop-ups. The only unavoidable annoyance is the "Skip Intro" button on series appearing, which doesn't make much sense to show onscreen when you're controlling from your phone and it already appears there. It also passes Dolby Atmos through Netflix, while the Roku doesn't.

Started rewatching Happy Endings and was super glad to see the first season is in proper order on Netflix. Actually makes a huge difference.

Netflix is raising prices in the U.S. and Canada, with its most popular subscription tier going from $13.99 a month to $15.49 in the U.S.

The lowest level of service climbed $1 to $9.99 and the premium tier is now $19.99, up from $17.99.

In Canada, the basic plan price did not change, but the standard plan (aka the middle tier) rose to $16.49 Canadian from $14.99.

$2 more a month isn't bad, to me. I'm sure many will bail if it goes over the $20 threshold.

When is The Sandman supposed to drop? I might cancel for awhile, and that's really the only new show I'm waiting for at this point.

You'd think they'd give you SOMETHING for that, like a more customizable interface. With increased competition they've made themselves the highest priced.

How high will it have to go for it not to be? They've been lucky enough people have thought that so far.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

I bailed around when the Disney service started up, and found that I have not missed NetFlix one bit. Still check this thread from time to time to see what's happening. If I subscribed again, it would likely be a month by month thing next time for some specific show.

Hulu Live forced bundle (with Disney+) and Netflix are still perfect options for me over Wave cable. Still cheaper than Wave cable and more content!

So the price increase doesn't affect my decision to keep Netflix or not.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

Wonder how many people are paying extra for 4K? They don't have a whole lot of content with it- strangely my parents, who have been subscribing since the disc-by-mail days and just cancelled the disc part of the subscription a few months ago have been paying for 4K even though they didn't have a 4K TV until last week. My dad seems to lose track of what he's subscribing to, I told him Netflix would be one of the first I'd drop but my mom seems to like it. Been watching Netflix myself a bit more since figuring out that you can actually have movies play with uninterrupted end credits if you cast them from a phone or ipad.

I pay extra. There's actually a good amount of 4k content. Plus they have some content in Dolby Vision especially Recently Added stuff.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

Apple TV+ has nearly EVERYTHING in 4K, Dolby Vision and Atmos though and they don't charge extra for it, of course they don't have as much material altogether. Netflix is the only service that charges extra for 4K, unless you count Vudu rentals which usually charge $1 or 2 more over crappy SD quality.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

I have the $17.99/month plan so that's going to $19.99

I mean they still drop hundreds of new shows and movies every month. But, I'm sure the members of this forum only watch less than 5% of them. It's endless new programming every month and sometimes I will find a gem.

The 4K add-on cost does kind of suck and I'm sure the majority here can't tell the difference between standard HD and 4K anyways, so I understand that the add-on price is probably not worth it to some of you.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

Kinda cocky of them to charge 2-3 times as much as everyone else. More competition than ever before and now they jack up the price? Not worth paying $250 a year for me. I'll stick with HBO Max.
