Re: Plex
After some temporary difficulties, I was finally able to figure out how to expand my storage pool. But it's going to take like 2 days to finish migrating everything.

Re: Plex
I was able to find the answer to my own question.
I'll be ordering the Zidoo Z1000 Pro, rather than the UDH3000. |
Re: Plex
It's really annoying when Plex won't read a movie. I've got two now that just don't show up at all. I guess I'll need to play around more with it.

After just looking up the prices, I think you made the right call. |

Re: Plex
Not to state the obvious, but have you manually done a 'Scan Library Files' ?
And, presumably the format is the same as other files you can see, or at least a supported format? |

Re: Plex
Do you have more than one server?
I have a server on my PC, and also one running on my Synology NAS. That throws me, now and then, because some of my content is duplicated. I'm still pretty new to this, so always seem to be running into one strangeness or another. It took a while to get things running, again, after the recommended password update. Edit: One other thing... you said they were produced through makemkv, but were their original sources the same, as well? MKV is a container, so it's possible to have a different codec, and possibly one that's not supported. |

Edit: One other thing... you said they were produced through makemkv, but were their original sources the same, as well? MKV is a container, so it's possible to have a different codec, and possibly one that's not supported. I think Plex mainly looks for a file in the folder. If there's an unsupported codec, I would think Plex would log the film into your collection but be unable to play it. I mean, films show up as soon as they start ripping, not when they're confirmed to be able to be played. So, I think you can have a corrupt, incomplete or unsupported file in there; it just won't play. My file will play just fine on my computer - Plex just doesn't see it. It's not the first time something like this happens, but I can usually get it to work. And then there's one file that I couldn't get to match correctly. So, I kept trying to update the file and folder names to get it matched, and now it won't even show up. So, it's not a codec thing. Plex is just weird sometimes. |
Re: Plex
I initially thought that, too (that Plex would show, but not be able to play the content). Something I read made me question whether that was the case.
As a test, I would copy an existing/working file to a different filename, in the same folder that's not working. See if that then shows up. If so, it would appear that it's content related. And I agree, Plex is definitely weird, at times. Great when it works, though. |

Re: Plex
I'm just suggesting a troubleshooting method, and that 'if' that pans out (i.e. the renamed file then shows up), it would appear that it's content related. I.e. same name, different content.
I missed the part about the file that no longer shows up. Did you rename it to the original folder/name, and it still doesn't show up? Edit: I'm even confusing myself, re-reading that. What I'm saying is change one thing. In this case, the name/location of a known working file. If that works, it would appear that it's the content causing the issue, for some reason. Not to be confused with the second case, you mentioned, where the once working file now doesn't show up. |

Re: Plex
Really no idea. What a strange thing.
The only experience I've had that's remotely similar (and only a little bit) is that sometimes Plex thinks two different movies are actually the same movie, so when I add the second file to my database, it seems like nothing shows up at all. Somehow (I can't remember...) I managed to figure out which movie it thought it was and I could then 'split' the two files into two separate entries, then fix the one that was erroneously cataloged. But in your case... I dunno. super weird. |

They don't show up at all. There are folders with video files, but they don't appear at all within Plex. It's like the folders aren't there. I wouldn't mind if the folder popped up but Plex didn't know how to match it. At least it would be there!
IE: Remove the folder/files, rescan, rename folder/files and copy them back to your Plex folder, rescan |
Re: Plex
Does the folder and file start with a period or ellipsis "." or "..."?" I had a problem with things like "...And Justice for All" not showing up, and it was due to the period at the beginning. Apparently some file systems ignore files that start with periods.

Re: Plex
Just to confirm, are you using the Admin account, and not an acct that does not have access to that particular library?
And, I found this on Reddit (from 4 years ago) - The fix: remove the movie to a folder outside of the Plex library. Then run a manual library scan/update. Then move the movie back and scan/update again. |

It's probably matching to another movie that's in your collection or otherwise just glitching. I'd rename the folder/files to something polar opposite and then manually match it with the proper title.

The other title still won't show up. I've basically given up on it. It dosn't have a title with any weird punctuation or resemble any other title in my collection. The movie is Fiend with the Electronic Brain. Not many similar titles.

I was able to get the UHD working. It turns out I had already ripped the Blu-ray but had a typo in the title, which is why it didn't show up when I searched on my computer and wasn't showing as a new addition on Plex.

And I've done the Plex dance many times. That's always the first thing to try when something isn't being picked up. I have a Family folder and Plex once matched a kid movie with a French flick featuring two full frontal naked men on the cover  |

If this name change doesn't work, maybe I'll try to rip the title again. As I mentioned before, I don't think Plex likes it if you change names too many times. Maybe that's why it's not picking it up now. Not sure why I didn't pick it up then, though. |
Re: Plex
Well, it finally happened...I upgraded my libraries from the legacy agent to the "new" Plex agent. I had been dreading it because I know Plex can't implement anything without breaking things. After running the scan, my library decreased from 2,581 movies down to 2,540. Now I have to go through almost 2600 titles and figure out which ones aren't getting pulled in now.
EDIT: Turns out they combined any movies with multiple editions into a single title, despite me having them previously split apart. Fortunately there is a way to filter these down to make the process quicker. Still a majorly unnecessary pain in the ass to split apart 40 movies and rename them back to what they originally were. After all this I'm still left with 1 single title that isn't pulling in. |
Re: Plex
Does anyone here have the Jean Rollin film Lips of Blood on Plex? I can't find anything for it. It wants to match it to Love Brides of the Mummy, which is a film from 2 years earlier that had Lips of Blood as an alternate title in some areas. I tried some alternate titles, including the French name, but no luck.
This one really stumps me, though, because I thought this was one of his better known films and I haven't had any issues matching other Rollin films. When I look at his filmography on Plex, it's not listed. I don't get it. Anyway, I'm hoping someone else has added it or knows a possible solution. |

Instead of putting the title in, for the match search, use the IMDB number. In this case, it's tt0073324. When I used that for the title, the correct match came up. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...a86edbaeb5.png |

^You're welcome, and yeah, I think it will be very handy, indeed!

Re: Plex
Just a random chime in, but the Plex FAST service is surprisingly stacked.
|
Re: Plex
PlexAmp has become one of the best things about Plex for me. I don't even have cell service, and use it entirely on my home network with a wifi smartphone. If I leave the house, I use the download feature for various albums or playlists.
The Sonic Analysis really opens up a lot of options, especially with the Guest DJs. I love picking an album or playlist, and then using DJ Stretch or DJ Gemini to pad out the runtime with other similar songs. The radio stations are nice, particularly Time Travel radio, and the Mixes for You are an easy way to start listening to something if I don't have an album or artist in mind already. They recently opened the app up for free users of Plex, although some parts of it are still locked behind the paid plan. Easily worth the $60 I paid for a lifetime membership. |
Re: Plex
I've been using that for a while too, we like it. I wish they would make a Roku app. The developers still say they have no current plans to do so (because of having to create and support a totally different UI).

Re: Plex
Over the last week I had a number of titles in my library have their posters removed. While researching the issue, it sounds like Plex is getting hit with some copyright violations for using the posters from certain studios. Not sure what the long term effects will be, but I'm going through my entire library and fixing dozens of titles yet again.
|
Re: Plex
Well, that's disappointing, for two reasons... Obviously, because posters are disappearing, but also because it's a dynamic process. I would've hoped that once the posters were set, they were just stored locally and never modified, unless you actively did so.
|
Re: Plex
I don't know about movie posters changing, but I've seen posters for the TV shows change randomly. I believe you can opt out of automatic metadata updating, which would likely stop any changes made to the posters.
|

The 'Plex Settings' icon. On the left menu, click the Scheduled Tasks option under the Settings section. Check the Refresh local metadata every three days option. In my case, I unchecked the option. Hopefully that will do it. |
Re: Plex
Yeah, I have refresh metadata unchecked. It didn't change posters like they do with metadata updates, it physically removed them. Now it's just one of those random screengrabs from the movie in place of the poster.
|
Re: Plex
^Just to clarify, you had that unchecked already, and still lost some of your posters?
|
Re: Plex
Can’t you configure which site you get the metadata from? I thing default is thetvdb and moviedb or something, are those sites getting hit with cease and desist?
|

Re: Plex
Ha I didn't even realize it changed over, I swear it still uses the TVDB/moviedb stuff or they are very very similar. Seems like you can change the source by library but that's obviously a hassle if your library is large, do we know if themoviedb is also affected? Which movie?
|
Re: Plex
I just did a scroll through my movie database, and nothing appeared to be affected. I have the auto-update for metadata enabled. I checked a couple that were listed in the Plex forums as being affected, and mine are still all good.
As an aside, if anyone is looking to buy a lifetime pass, they are discounted currently. 20% off. Use code: ITSPROTIME |
