When was this? Been watching stuff all day.

Just checked and I guess there’s some hiccup. Still watching Hulu on one TV (TCL with Roku) and the kids on another via Roku stick. Both are working fine.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised these days. Pornhub's owner is a Canada based company, I read a lot of Canadian news and have heard nothing about this.

There goes one reason to keep my Roku hooked up. It's still the best way to access Vudu at the moment though- Apple TV has it so crippled you can't even make purchases or rentals from it directly!

Roku OS 11 will let you set your own photos as a screensaver

Hello there, customizable Photo Streams
By Catie Keck Mar 22, 2022, 9:00am EDTRoku device owners will soon have a whole host of new personalization features, including all-new Photo Streams, with the Roku OS 11.

Firstly, when Roku OS 11 rolls out to users in the weeks ahead, they’ll be able to change their screensaver to display their own photography or images with Photo Streams. Not only will Photo Streams allow users to display photos from their desktop or mobile device on Roku, but users will also be able to share Streams with other Roku device owners as well. Once a Stream is shared, other Roku owners will be able to add to it, allowing everyone to collaborate on a shared album.

Roku OS 11 will also introduce a new “what to watch on Roku” menu, a personally curated hub added to the home screen menu that will suggest popular and recently released TV and movies.

Roku is rolling out a handful of other features as well. Voice-enabled keyboards — already supported on Roku — will be available in Spanish, German, and Portuguese with the OS 11 update in the US (and other supported markets). And Roku’s mobile app will display additional information about TV shows and movies, including more details about where to stream them for free or through existing paid accounts and images of cast and crew attached to a given title.

Lastly, Roku is introducing both a new automatic speech clarity setting for clearer dialogue as well as new sound modes for Roku streambars and speakers. Those sound settings include Standard, Dialogue, Movie, Music, and Night modes.

“We recognize not everyone interacts with their TV in the same way, so we are proud to offer a platform full of choice, while simultaneously providing our users an easy-to-use experience,” Gidon Katz, SVP of product and experience at Roku, said in a statement.

Roku OS 11 will begin rolling out to streaming devices in the coming weeks.

I might use the photo screensaver. Right now I have the cityscape one enabled because sometimes a free rental offer will scroll by.

Re: The Roku Thread

I've been having an issue lately with closed captioning when I watch shows on various apps through Roku. I usually leave CC on for all my viewing, as I have partial hearing loss (and tinnitus) and dialogue is sometimes difficult to make out. In the past, I've set CC to "always on" in the Roku settings and had no problems. I could watch shows from each of my various subscriptions (Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, Prime, etc.) and the captions would be on. But for the past couple of months this setting is not holding. Every time I start watching something, the captions will be off. I press * to open Roku options and select "closed captions-->always on" and the captions will turn on, but later when I start watching something else they will be off again. I googled and it looks like others are experiencing the same issue, and it may be related to the HBO Max, app, but is affecting all apps. Anyone else here noticing this?

I have the same problem. On top of tinnitus and minor hearing loss, English is my second language so closed captioned and subtitle is a must for me. For the last several weeks, I also noticed that my Closed Caption Always On setting would not stay. All my subscriptions (Criterion, HBO and HULU) have this problem.

Re: The Roku Thread

Okay, I just tested the HBO Max theory that I had read about and it appears to be correct. If I turn closed captions to "on always" when in one of the other streaming apps (Netflix, Paramount+, etc.), then the setting stays on if I go to another streaming app, EXCEPT if I go to HBO Max then the closed captions setting will be reset to off, and if I then go back to one of the other streamers it will be off and I will have to turn it back on. So odd and annoying.

Watched my first Roku original, The Now (Franco, Milano, Bill Murray, Hannah) which is obviously from Quibi. I enjoyed the show but the 9 minutes episodes make watching it a bit of a pain.

Is there any way to find which channels have been removed by Roku? Just right now, Roku removed a channel from my system and I don’t really know which one was it. I know they removed it because the icons on the selection screen changed position in the last hour or so

This happened to me one time. I racked my brain. Eventually I realized it was MovieSPREE.

I mention that as it might be something you didn't expect to go yet didn't work anymore anyway.

Usually, even if it isn’t working, Roku will not remove the app for you. They’ll wait for you to try to use it and a pop up will say that the channel is not active/available anymore and leave it to tge user to delete it

Re: The Roku Thread

All the private channels disappeared on the same day, when they announced they would be disabled. Got an Nvidia Shield after that and haven't used my Roku since then. (The Apple TV still shares streaming duties, but apart from Vudu there's nothing the Roku does better than either of those.)

For me, MovieSPREE's was automatically removed. I found that odd but it was what it was. I recently had others go away as well. Some I've determined, others I have not. We use a few channels all the time and the lesser used ones sit there as available. Sometimes I think of removing many myself and then think we "might" use them someday.

That's a good question. Roku announced they were removing "all non-certified channels". I've not found any kind of list but I believe I lost three. One was some sort of TV channel listing, TV Guide type if you will but can't recall the name. Another was HSN shopping. They have a combined HSN/QVC but for some reason I preferred the HSN only one and I have no idea about the third but based on the reshuffle of the lineup there were three in total. The ROKU forums are lit with folks complaining.

Re: The Roku Thread

Lionsgate and Roku have struck a deal giving the studio’s feature films an exclusive streaming run on the free, ad-supported Roku Channel after they play on Starz.

The multi-year output arrangement covers theatrical releases starting this year.

Under the deal, the Roku Channel will have two windows for the Lionsgate titles — the first of which will follow their exclusive Starz stints and the second of which will be non-exclusive.

Bolstered by a suite of original episodic and film titles, the Roku Channel has continued to gain scale as Roku has surpassed 60 million active accounts. Founded in 2017, the Roku Channel includes more than 275 live, linear channels and 80,000-plus on-demand film and episodic offerings. As of the end of 2021, it was reaching households with 80 million people.

Films that will be part of the new distribution setup include the John Wick action franchise, Expendables 4 and Borderlands. Directed by Eli Roth, Borderlands stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jack Black. Other titles include Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret; a followup to 2017 hit Wonder, and this month’s Nicolas Cage release, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
