New Japan Pro-Wrestling Sets Roku Channel TV Deal in U.S., U.K, Canada

New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) will air on the Roku Channel in the U.S., U.K., and Canada under a new television deal, Variety has learned.

The professional wrestling promotion will air a one-hour weekly series on the Roku Channel beginning Feb. 11 and will air every Thursday thereafter beginning at 5 p.m. Episodes will then be available on-demand to Roku’s estimated 61.8 million users for free with ads. Additionally, the Roku Channel will host a block of library content, featuring key highlights from the 2020 NJPW catalogue, with potential for the introduction of more historical content in the future.

Re: The Roku Thread

Is there a way to determine if/when the Roku channel drops a show? I was watching the old "Head of the Class" series (apparently I never saw it when originally aired) and was down to the last three episodes of the series and now it appears to be gone. I suspect it was available until the end of January but wonder if I somehow missed it being removed.

When I subscribed to AcornTV they would pretty much advertise new shows and when shows were being removed with at least a few weeks notice so I could plan.

Head of the Class is on HBO Max now if you subscribe to it.

Near the end of each month, I google Coming to Hulu March 2021 (the next month) and repeat for Amazon, and Netflix, etc. Other sites publish them. I assume they get a press release from Hulu and the others.
I try to find a site that lists them by date, and puts the years after the movies.

I don't but it may be worth a trial to finish the last 3 or 4 episodes so I'm not left hanging.

HBO Max killed free trials because they are releasing first run 2021 movies this year. So if $15 a month is too rich for you, you’re out of luck.

Re: The Roku Thread

Has anyone ever had any audio issues with the Roku? I've got mine connected via HDMI to my receiver. Video is perfect. The audio sounds great, but it doesn't come out of the back speakers.

I hit buttons on my receiver's remote to try different audio settings, and a message comes up saying not available. I put on a Blu-ray and confirmed that those buttons do still work to update settings as do my rear speakers - just not on my Roku.

I've got the Roku audio setting set to audio detect since it says that's the recommended setting. Could that be the reason? I can't figure out what could be causing this.

Edit to add: Yep, switching that audio setting did the trick.

Re: The Roku Thread

I guess that audio issue turned out to be a good thing. Once the right speaker was working, I decided to check the left one. Silence. Turns out that one of the wires had come loose on my receiver. At least I've got it back up and going again.

Re: The Roku Thread

Edit, NOT FandangoNow, but for Row8

There's a Geico ad for $6 Row8 up on Roku. I got it on my 4th try, that has to be a record.
Says purchase or rental but these are always hit or miss, and usually rental only.

Offer is valid starting 12:00 a.m. ET on 03/01/2021 through 11:59 p.m. ET on 03/31/2021

Code expires on 11:59 p.m. ET on 4/30/2021

EDIT 2: Got signed up and does look like it would work for purchases but I think I will just rent.

Re: The Roku Thread

I'm considering getting another Roku device for the kitchen, since the old Roku (the Roku Streaming Stick 3500) is showing its age and also due to Amazon being very irritating of keeping VUDU off the Fire Stick. Should I go for the $50 Roku Streaming Stick+ or be a dumb cheap stake and get another Roku Express (I have an Express in my bedroom.) for the kitchen?

The Premiere is on sale for $25. Both the Premiere and the Stick are 4K HDR. The main difference is the Stick has better wifi and voice remote. If you're going to do 4K streaming, I'd recommend the Stick for the stronger wifi connection.

The stick is an all around great product. I’d go with that.

Re: The Roku Thread

I'm really interested in the new remote that's rechargeable. I would use the earbuds more often if they didn't drain the batteries. So i instead use the Roku app on my phone to listen with earbuds. So while battery draining isn't an issue with my phone, the Roku app Remote Headphone feature is wonky and disconnects a lot causing the sound to come from the tv again especially if I try to use my phone while listening.

Why not use rechargeable batteries in the remote?

Re: The Roku Thread

My TCL RokuTV updated to OS 10, but I don't see any changes on the Roku Channel. It would be easier to use if I could remove unwanted channels..

Re: The Roku Thread

That’s supposed to be one of the updates, the ability to remove Roku channels from their menu. Perhaps it’s a smaller update coming up.

Because I already have my phone which I can charge up. The Roku remote app is sometimes wonky, but it still works.

Re: The Roku Thread

One thing I noticed with the remote for the Roku Streaming Stick+ I bought for my girlfriend’s place was that the batteries were draining way fast. We had changed the batteries and it was dead in less than a month (maybe even within a couple weeks actually).

I found out online that if you use your tv’s USB as the power source apparently it causes the remote to constantly be searching for the Roku once the tv is off since there’s no power, and that in turn drains the batteries faster. Switched it to a regular outlet and the batteries are lasting way longer.

Funny- mine is plugged into a USB on my receiver and it doesn’t power off even when the receiver is turned off, but I wish it did.

This can be fixed in the receiver's settings. On my Denon if you change the Network Control from "Always On" to "Off in Standby", the USB inputs will power off in standby.

Re: The Roku Thread

I like being able to turn music on from my phone though. I’ve heard the Roku sticks overheat so turning it off would be good, but that hasn’t been a problem after a few years of being plugged in. It was losing its network connection randomly and requiring resetting to work again, but that hasn’t happened in a while.

Re: The Roku Thread

Posting here as well - Roku has an ad to receive $6 off a rental or purchase from Row8. I haven’t heard of this service, has anyone used it before? Is it part of MA?
