I use it quite often. I find it easier to simply copy some video files to a "thumb" drive and play them that way.

Re: The Roku Thread
But I like the layout and functionality of Emby. It seems to me, to be more stable too. Not a lot of bloatware type of stuff (podcasts, news) that I had to turn off on Plex.
I never liked the Roku media player. It only worked for me if I played from a USB instead of over the network.
If I ever get around to getting a reliable OTA digital antenna and DVR, I'll look into getting a paid account.

Yeah, Plex made their content a little too invasive initially (News/PodCasts/Movies/TV) but they've scaled it back a bit and I still prefer the interface, so that's been my pick.

Keep on eye on the main menu ad. There's a new $4.99 FandangoNow Rental Credit promo. The ad is green and it's from Starbucks. It says "$4.99 Towards Your Next Movie Night". It's only for rentals and it expires on 6/25.

Roku Unveils On-Screen Program Guide, Adds Live Linear Networks To Roku Channel
Roku has added a live, on-screen program guide to its free, ad-supported Roku Channel, enabling it to more closely emulate the experience of watching linear TV.
In addition to the guide, Roku is adding more than 30 new channels to the existing lineup of 100-plus viewing options that can be accessed via the Roku Channel. The changes were expected to take effect by midnight on Monday.

Hopefully it's better than Plutos trainwreck of a tv guide.

"The channel guide should begin rolling out this week to Roku’s streaming players, such as the Roku Ultra, Roku Premiere+ and the Roku Express, while Roku TVs and other Roku-enabled devices will get the grid in the coming weeks."

Roku TV firmware updates are done and rolled out differently than their streaming devices. TV ones take a little longer.
I just took a look at one of my TV's with the streaming stick and the new Roku TV Live looks really nice and has a ton of channels. I have no idea whether or not I'll look at them, but there's a lot of sports channels I was happy to see.

The Peacock and Roku fight is now getting ugly. Comcast is pulling all the NBC TV everywhere Apps tonight or tomorrow because of the Peacock dispute.
Meaning you won’t be able to watch any NBC related app at all.
streaming is turning like cable now with provider fights.

I hate Comcast. But a lot of this is Roku's fault. They've shifted away from their original mission to create the best streaming hardware/software. Now they're focused on profiting from ad revenue.
I hope they don't start going after smaller ad-supported streaming services like Pluto, Tubi, etc.

Bought a Roku Streaming Stick+ for my girlfriend’s place. I like how it works pretty well and the interface is nice.
I don’t care about Peacock/NBC too much. My girlfriend would like to watch Yellowstone is about it. I do sort of wish they’d work something out with WB for HBO Max though.

The problem they have is at some point, their streaming boxes are "good enough" that you have many needing an upgrade.

I'm almost tempted to switch to Apple TV so I can watch HBO Max in my living room. I really love Roku though and I can watch regular HBO programming via my HBO Max Hulu subscription. I can only watch HBO Max in my bedroom on my PS4.

I looked at Apple TV. It’s nice but it didn’t seem worth the premium Apple price to me when there are other options that essentially do the same thing. Granted Roku is missing some apps, but I would think eventually there will be some sort of agreement worked out.
