It's funny - I had a Roku about 8 years ago, and ended up selling it. I didnt' see the benefit. At the time I had only one TV, and used my Xbox for Netflix.
Now, though, (mostly because of DCUniverse), I bought one about 8 months ago, and then a second one for the upstairs TV. Love it and most of what I watch is on the Roku device. I don't watch Amazon Video much - a lot of their stuff seems "stuffy" to me (alhough I do want to finish the Tick). I don't watch Hulu much, except occasionally for certain shows. Mostly Netflix which of course I could watch on virtually every device; DCU; my Vudu library; and every now and then Shudder. Plus weird stuff - BoardyTV (board game video casts), Newsy, 80s Flashback videos. |

I'm weird. I have a FireTV, an Nvidea Shield, and I finally opened my Roku for my third TV. I really don't see much of a difference besides with the Shield except the apps all have different issues and the developers take a long time to fix them.

That heavily depends on you. What are you interested in and what are you willing to pay for? There's thousands of apps out there. I mean if you're not interested in mainstream movies and TV shows like on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon, then that's going to really narrow things down to really niche content.

If you have a cable/satellite subscription, then check out the TV Anywhere channels like: HGTV Food Network Travel Channel Disney Now Watch TCM ESPN ABC FoxNow FreeForm Comedy Central SyFy USA Network History Channel etc If you have a cable/satellite subscription, you have access to tons of content. If you want Free movies/TV content, check out: Vudu's Free section Pluto TV The Roku Channel Filmrise The CW and CW Seed Check your local public library and see if they partner with these two services: Hoopla Kanopy Those services will give you free video rentals. |

I'm pretty sure I may have done this searching for the right button. The Roku remote really needs either button lighting or at the very least some Glow in the Dark paint on the button labels. Trying to hit the right buttons is a pain when the room is dark. |

Plus the Roku remote is very easy too lose.
I ordered another one and shortly afterwards found the lost one. It's good to have more than one Roku device should you lose one or the other remote. |

Heh, That's actually the reason I shy away from TV Sticks. I lose remotes.
The Rokus I've had all support my IR-based universal remotes which makes life easier. |

Roku also has an iOS (and I assume Android) app that you can use as a remote. Makes typing in passwords, etc. super easy too.

Is there an app on the Roku for Cinemax? Cinemax is included in my cable package so I do have access to the channel. There's a movie airing there that I wanted to watch, but I don't see an app on the Roku for Cinemax. It would just be more convenient if I could watch it through Roku.
I use the HBO, Showtime, and Starz apps on the Roku, but this is the first time I tried to see something on Cinemax. Am I missing it somewhere? |

I don't think Cinemax(along with The Movie Channel) have standalone streaming channels.
Try Amazon Prime Video(among some others) as they have a Cinemax Channel. Check Cord Cutter News.com for a listing of channels available per tv streaming services(or something). |

I think Cinemax(like The Movie Channel) are their owner's throw away channels. They get everything that HBO and Showtime passes on.
They dropped Cinemax from everyone's Spectrum Gold Cable package but for some reason it's still available on their streaming channels on-demand library(which last time I looked was only 175 movies). I am still waiting on Epix Now for Roku(since Spectrum also dropped Epix from it's Gold package and no way am I paying 15 dollars a month for either Cinemax or Epix). |

Cinemax movies(Spectrum streaming on-demand) only have about 25 percent of what the HBO Spectrum streaming on-demand has so it's not even comparable between the two.
Yeah they are going to give them a movie or two before HBO because no one would subscribe otherwise. Like I mentioned Spectrum pulled the plug on Cinemax on their Gold package and I haven't heard much complaining about it. Certainly it's not worth 15 dollars a month(well at least with overpriced Spectrum) because I get HBO for 5 dollars with Direct TV Now. I wonder what Cinemax subscription base (non-streaming) is compared to HBO,Starz or Showtime. God only knows what happened to The Movie Channel. Last time I looked (Spectrum cable) they rarely show anything in HD(that could have changed because it's been awhile). |

Thanks everyone, for confirming that Cinemax doesn't have a Roku app. The channel is included in my cable subscription, packaged with HBO, Showtime, and Starz, so I don't want to spend more money to add the channel through Amazon Prime.
I don't watch the channel much at all, but it just so happens that they have a movie running right now that I was interested in. I can get to it through my cable On Demand, but I wanted to watch it on a different TV that only has a Roku attached. Oh well! Thanks again! |
