Yup, today my receiver did a big FW update. No issues at all.

When did Flixster stop allowing you to watch your movies? I have several movies on Flixster from the UK that dont transfer over to vudu.

True, but beggars can't be choosers. I often listen to the Red Sox on radio, but with no cable and no other baseball viewing options during the week for me, sometimes I enjoy just watching a few innings no matter who's playing. They had me at "free, in HD".

Well pleased w/my Roku 3. So now want another set top/streaming for living room. Should I just get another 3? Other than speed and game are there major differences w/the 2 and 1?

The Roku 3 is the only version that has the actual updated OS. With that means some newer apps, including YouTube and Netflix (w/ Profiles, Post-play, and "Casting" features from your phone/laptop) and such . I would just wait until the refurbs are available.

Fire TV isn't ready for prime time yet.

The Roku 3 is the only one with an ethernet and USB port. Also, I think it's the only model with Youtube. And it's the only one that can cast from Youtube & Netflix apps. I love browsing Youtube on my PC/iPad and playing it on my TV.

The Roku 2 & 3 both have the headphone jack in the remote. And they both have dual band wireless.

The Roku 1 is missing the headphone jack, dual band wireless, ethernet port, USB port, Youtube app, and Youtube/Netflix casting.

Re: The Roku Thread

I bought the Roku 3 just because of the Ethernet port, as I don't have a wireless router, and I have to say, I'm happy that I paid the extra money for the 3.

That's an old model. Of the current models, only the 3 has ethernet and USB.

Re: The Roku Thread

Well I talked to wife and she wants Roku like I put in bar.

I set bar TV up with all my accounts, ill set up living room with her accounts. We share Netflix, but each have our own google and amazon accounts.

She mainly uses living room TV, I most the bar. So she can set up how she wants, but will be similar enough she can use bar.

Sounds like just get a 3 and be done with it.

Re: The Roku Thread

What about the Roku Stick? Even though my TV is several years old, it does have USB. I would assume it also has the most current interface and selection for youTube, etc.

Other than the speedy process and headphones in remote, what else to lose?

Re: The Roku Thread

The Roku stick works through the HDMI port, not the USB port. It can be powered through the USB port but from what I have read it works better when it is plugged into an outlet.

Re: The Roku Thread

Well I presume he's going to need an open HDMI port regardless. The USB aspect for power just makes it easier. Mine has worked fine so far powered through the USB.

Re: The Roku Thread

Yea, I have an open HDMI. I didn't realize the Stick wasn't USB.

I ended up just getting another 3. I need to reprogram my remote, but I assume the Stick uses a RF remote and thus I wouldn't be able to use a universal remote.

Re: The Roku Thread

Someone (with much more free time than I have) should tabulate how many religion-themed apps the Roku has in comparison with everything else. I get excited every time I see they've added new stuff, and then 90 percent of the new apps are trying to convert me to something.

Re: The Roku Thread

I don't actually look in the Roku store. If it's important, tech blogs cover it (ie: ESPN, YouTube, etc; ). Otherwise, odds are it's crap.

I usually look in the channel store once a week, but just ignore the religion/spirituality heading.

Almost every local church is now putting their Sunday services up as a ROKU channel.

Re: The Roku Thread

Probably a dumb question, but I've never bought digital video programs before. If I buy an Amazon instant video, can I watch that on my Roku without paying for Amazon Prime? I have the Amazon Cloud player on my Roku where I can access digital music I've bought from them--does video work the same way?
