It’s that time again: if you’re a Netflix Instant subscriber, there’s lots of new titles hitting the streaming service in October. We’ve got the original ‘Annie’ just in time for the new remake, the complete ‘Gilmore Girls’ series (it’s about time!), ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,’ tons of classic films and new favorites, and a handful of TV shows to binge-watch. October 1

‘Annie’ (1982) — Starring Aileen Quinn, Albert Finney, and Carol Burnett. The classic musical centering on a young orphan girl’s adventures to find a family that will take her.

‘Bad Johnson’ (2014) — Starring Cam Gigandet, Jamie Chung, and Nick Thune. A charismatic womanizer receives his comeuppance after his penis mysteriously leaves his body and takes human form.

‘Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle’ (2003) — Starring Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu. The Angels investigate a series of murders which occur after the theft of a witness protection profile database.

‘Chicken Run’ (2000) — Starring Mel Gibson, Miranda Richardson, and Timothy Spall. ‘Chicken Run’ is a comedy escape drama with a touch of passion set on a sinister Yorks chicken farm in 1950s England.

‘Domestic Disturbance’ (2001) — Starring John Travolta, Nick Loren, and Vince Vaughn. A divorced father discovers that his 12-year-old son’s new stepfather is not what he made himself out to be.

‘Ernest Saves Christmas’ (1988) — Starring Jim Varney, Douglas Seale, and Oliver Clark. Ernest helps Santa Claus as he searches for his successor.

‘Finding Forrester’ (2000) — Starring Sean Connery, Rob Brown, and F. Murray Abraham. A young writing prodigy finds a mentor in a reclusive author.

‘Galaxy Quest’ (1999) — Starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, and Alan Rickman. The alumni cast of a space opera television series have to play their roles in real life when an alien race needs their help.

‘Gilmore Girls: The Complete Series’ – Starring Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, and Melissa McCarthy. A drama centering around the relationship between a 30-something single mother and her teen daughter living in Stars Hollow, Connecticut.

‘Hit!’ (1973) — Starring Billy Dee Williams, Richard Pryor, and Paul Hampton. When a federal agent’s daughter dies of a drug overdose, he sets out to take revenge against the dealers who supplied her.

‘Hostages’ Season 1 (2014) — Starring Toni Collette, Dylan McDermott, and Billy Brown. A surgeon is drawn into a vast political conspiracy when her family is taken hostage.

‘Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius’ (2001) — Starring Debi Derryberry, Rob Paulsen, and Megan Cavanagh. An 8-year-old boy genius and his friends must rescue their parents after the adults are abducted by aliens.

‘My Father the Hero’ (1994) — Starring Gerard Depardieu, Katherine Heigl, and Dalton James. A teenage girl on vacation in the Bahamas with her divorced father tries to impress a potential boyfriend by saying that her father is actually her lover.

‘Paths of Glory’ (1957) — Starring Kirk Douglas, Ralph Meeker, and Adolphe Menjou. When soldiers in World War I refuse to continue with an impossible attack, their superior officers decide to make an example of them.

‘Please Subscribe: A Documentary About YouTubers’ (2013) — This documentary examines the independent artists making startling salaries on YouTube every year.

‘Rescue Dawn’ (2006) — Starring Christian Bale, Steve Zahn, and Jeremy Davies. A US Fighter pilot’s epic struggle of survival after being shot down on a mission over Laos during the Vietnam War.

‘Romeo + Juliet’ (1996) — Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Claire Danes, and John Leguizamo. Shakespeare’s famous play is updated to the hip modern suburb of Verona, while still retaining its original dialogue.

‘Shadow of the Vampire’ (2000) — Starring John Malkovich, Willem Dafoe, and Udo Kier. The filming of Nosferatu is hampered by the fact that the star is taking his role far more seriously than what seems humanly possible.

‘Shane’ (1953) — Starring Alan Ladd, Jean Arthur, and Van Helfin. A weary gunfighter attempts to settle down with a homestead family, but a smoldering settler/rancher conflict forces him to act.

‘Sleepless in Seattle’ (1993) — Starring Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan, and Rita Wilson. A recently widowed man’s son calls a radio talk show in an attempt to find his father a partner.

‘Shivers’ (1975) — Starring Paul Hampton, Joe Silver, and Lynn Lowry. The residents of a suburban high-rise apartment building are being infected by a strain of parasites that turn them into mindless, sex-crazed fiends out to infect others by the slightest sexual contact.

‘The Phantom of the Opera’ (1989) — Starring Robert Englund, Jill Schoelen, and Alex Hyde-White. A darker version of the classic Gaston Leroux novel. A young soprano becomes the obsession of a horribly disfigured composer who has plans for those who oppose himself or the young singer.

‘Team America: World Police’ (2004) — Starring Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Elle Russ. Popular Broadway actor Gary Johnston is recruited by the elite counter-terrorism organization Team America: World Police. As the world begins to crumble around him, he must battle with terrorists, celebrities and falling in love.

‘Three Fugitives’ (1989) — Starring Martin Short, Nick Nolte, and Sarah Rowland Doroff. Fresh out of prison, former stickup man Daniel Lucas finds himself taken hostage at a bank by would-be robber Ned Perry, and the cops — aware of Lucas’ history — naturally assume the two are a team. Before you can say “getaway,” Lucas and Perry are on the run with Perry’s 6-year-old daughter along for the ride in director Francis Veber’s fast-paced remake of his French crime caper.

‘Tombstone’ (1993) — Starring Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, and Sam Elliott. A successful lawman’s plans to retire anonymously in Tombstone, Arizona, are disrupted by the kind of outlaws he was famous for eliminating.

‘The Wedding Planner’ (2001) — Starring Jennifer Lopez, Matthew McConaughey, and Bridgett Wilson-Sampras. Mary Fiore is San Francisco’s most successful supplier of romance and glamor. ‘Carrie’ (2013) — Starring Chloe Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore, and Gabrielle Wilde. A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White, a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother, who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.

‘Reign’ Season 1 (2013) — Starring Adelaide Kane, Megan Follows, and Torrance Coombs. ‘Little Man’ (2006) — Starring Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, and Kerry Washington. A wannabe dad mistakes a vertically challenged criminal on the lam as his newly adopted son.

October 7

‘The Following’ Season 2 (2014) — Starring Kevin Bacon, Shawn Ashmore, and James Purefoy. A brilliant and charismatic, yet psychotic serial killer communicates with other active serial killers and activates a cult of believers following his every command.

‘Hart of Dixie’ Season 3 (2013) — Starring Rachel Bilson, Jaime King, and Cress Williams. New Yorker and new doctor Zoe Hart accepts an offer from a stranger, Dr. Harley Wilkes, to work in his medical practice in Bluebell, Alabama. ‘Jay Mohr: Funny For a Girl’ – The comedian’s first comedy special in over seven years focuses on topics ranging from raising kids to his hilarious impressions of stars like Christopher Walken and Adam Sandler.

October 9

‘A Long Way Down’ (2014) — Starring Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette, and Imogen Poots. Four people meet on New Year’s Eve and form a surrogate family to help one another weather the difficulties of their lives.

‘The Tomorrow People’ Season 1 (2013) — Starring Robbie Amell, Peyton List, and Luke Mitchell.
