It varies, just like everything else. Netflix lost the rights to most Viacom shows at the same time after Viacom raised the cost of licensing a ridiculous amount, including South Park.

TV series seem to stay on for at least a year. It seems like LOST has been on there since the service started.

Unfortunately, thanks to the idiot public raising a massive stink every time they purge titles (something that has to happen), Netflix no longer tells you when stuff is about to expire.

Actually I see what is expiring & often prioritize accordingly. This is via their website. It is often fair advance warning to adjust.

Lost has been taken off before- I think it got put back on just because there were a lot of complaints. I still need to watch it, especially since I bought the Season 4 Blu-Ray at the dollar store recently. Gotta watch the prior seasons and decide if I want to buy those too.

That has absolutely nothing to do with why things get taken off and put back on. It's all about the licensing.

Watched You're Next on Netflix last night and thought it was pretty good but it's the same premise as the movie "Below Utopia" also known as "Body Count" with Justin Theroux, Alyssa Milano, and Ice-T.

It started out strong, but ended pretty weak if you ask me. I wasn't that impressed. The Strangers did it better (and yes, I understand the motivations of the villains were different, but I liked the lack of motivation in The Strangers - just scarier).

Yeah, I found "You're Next" to be entertaining, but hardly "revolutionary" like some people were saying. "Prepare to have your MIND BLOWN!!!"

You're Next seems like it's about 15 minutes too long, but the kills were fun.

Re: The OFFICIAL Noteworthy New Arrivals to Netflix Thread

After all the hype, I didn't think You're Next was good at all. The acting was horrible almost across the board, and the character were RIDICULOUS in how they would randomly split up, walk in front of windows, or go TO TAKE A NAP even though it's been made clear that the killers can enter the house. I was so busy rolling my eyes that it didn't scare me in the least.

Re: The OFFICIAL Noteworthy New Arrivals to Netflix Thread

The acting was about on par with most $1m horror flicks (Saw comes to mind. I think the only one to escape that fate was Insidious). I don't think it was trying to be scary so much as just be violent.

Yeah, you're right. I guess given the decent praise the movie received, I was expecting a higher caliber cast than what we got. Like a previous poster stated, The Strangers was a similar but infinitely better movie. Even though both movies featured characters making stupid decisions (and behaving at times as though the killers didn't have access to inside the house), The Strangers was definitely helped by much better acting, atmosphere, and overall tension.

You're Next, though fairly glossy, is probably the kind of thing which would have been shot on grainy 16mm back in the day. I think there's sort of a disconnect between that more intense and straightforward aspect of it, and the postmodern, Scream-style deconstruction it wants to do. Though it isn't overtly self-referential, I think it's trying to play more to a horror-fan crowd who know the genre's tropes and have certain expectations. That's perfectly fine, but I think it's a little torn between the old-fashioned raw quality and more glossy new quality and don't think it can quite reconcile them. That said, I did quite enjoy the movie, and the horror set pieces work pretty well, and have a nicely nasty and gory bite. Not enough Barbara Crampton though

Blue Ruin was added, 96% on rottentomatoes.

Parenthood season 5

Being Mary Jane season 1 starring Gabrielle Union

were both added

One note about Being Mary Jane. The original Pilot is a 90 minute movie that is separate from the series. The series itself is 8 episodes. You will need to add them separately.

Netflix just acquired the streaming rights to The Blacklist. Season 1 will be posted next week. Good time to catch up for those who missed it.

That's what happens when you have competition (Amazon and Hulu.) I'm sure they'll pass the savings on to us.

It's just odd, maybe getting some older viewers?

Netflix pays $900,000 per episode of New Girl, which actually may keep that show afloat an extra season despite horrific ratings. They pay $1.35m per episode of The Walking Dead which is a big draw for them. I just don't see it with Black List

Because...people who are fans of the show are already watching it on TV? It's already doing well in the ratings, so why can't Sony cash in while it's hot? I'm sure there are many people who missed it last Fall due to various factors. This will benefit plenty of people.

The Black List was sold to many foreign territories by Sony in addition to it's Netflix deal and airing on NBC. It's a cash machine for Sony.
