Amazon question: How do you transfer or 'free up' GCs?

Hi all:
A while back, I recall reading that it was possible to 'remove' or 'release' an unused non-promo Amazon GC that had already been entered into an account.
Is this still possible? Can anyone explain how to go about doing it? The CSR I spoke with said she was pretty sure it was possible, but that an order specialist had to do it. The order specialist I was then transfered to said he had never heard of it being done, and had no idea how to go about doing it.
