BEWARE of Buy.com credit authorizations
Check your credit and debit cards. I know, I know, I was dumb and used a debit card. I've been wondering where all my money was going this week . . . NOW I KNOW! Don't think I will be using buy.com again anytime soon. Just a warning in case anyone else thought something was screwy with their account too. By the way this order was placed exactly 2 weeks ago and this email came tonight. Weird.
Here's the email I got:

We recently discovered that our credit card authorization process
experienced difficulties with your order #<deleted>. This may have caused
multiple authorizations on your credit or debit card. If you paid by
credit card, please be assured this is only an authorization, your credit
card has not been double billed and no interest charges will be applied.
However, any additional authorization on your credit card will affect your
available spending balance.
If this order was paid for with your bank Debit Card, the authorization
will hold the funds from use, making the amount inaccessible through ATM
or point of sale transactions.
Please know we are working as quickly as possible to remove any additional
authorizations that may be on your card as a result of this buy.com error,
as these funds will be held on reserve until we release the duplicate
authorization(s). While there is no need for you to contact us regarding
this matter, you are welcome to respond to this email and we will reply as
soon as possible.
We consider you a valuable customer, and sincerely apologize for this
inconvenience. This will be resolved by 3/26/01 and we will send you a
follow-up email when our mistake has been cleared up.

I had one of those, a double charge of 106.03 on the 3/7 and 3/8. I emailed them about it but that was atleast 4 days ago and never got a reply or the email you got. I called the same day I found it and was told it would be corrected in 3-5 days but hasnt been so far. I just hope it gets corrected before they go OOB.

....which explains exactly why I would never use a debit card or give a debit card number to any on-line retailer, At least with a credit card, a mistae simply cuts down on your available credit, but a debit card foul-up can cause your checks to start bouncing!

I finally got an email from Buy.com from my Email. Maybe I will get 2 106.03 credits, its happened before!!!
