I emailed Express.com about an order for the OOP "Silence of the Lambs: Criterion Collection" which they told me was on backorder, to ask it they were going to be able to fill the order. Here was the Reply:

Dear Express.com Customer,

Thank you for contacting us.

Unfortunately, the studio producing this title has put it on moratorium and gave us September 2001 as the last suggested re-release date. It has been removed from the store. If you ordered this through another site other than our store, http://www.Express.com, please inform them they have a dead link.

If you like, you may delete this item from the order through me or through the store over the internet (In the My Account section of our store). You may also change the item to something else if you wish.

I can confirm we do not charge until items ship, so nothing has yet been charged, and therefore nothing will happen to your credit card if you change the order.

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment. Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Does this make sence to anyone? Re-release? Are they talking about a non-criterion version?

It just means that the title is awaiting another pressing run. The way DVDs, CDs, book production etc works, is by schedueling massive initial pressings/printings and then when supplies dwindle or are exhausted, the title is re-pressed/printed.

This re-pressing/printing is not considered a separate edition, but rather a re-release or a second printing. In effect what it means is that it will carry an identical ISBN number to the original release, unless significant revisions are made to warrent a revised number (which would be denoted as a "second edition" in printing terms)
