I got a Staples $50 rebate check in the mail the other day and was surprised when it arrived sans envelope or any sort of security...basically it was a check doubling as a post card. Is this Staples typical practice?

I wonder how many of these checks disappear before they arrive at their destinations? The rebate took a bit less than 8 weeks to arrive, but I can't remember what Staples promised. I'll have to give some thought before I'll go through another rebate process with them though.

Typical for some of the rebates that come from the Coppell TX clearing house. Come to think of it, I guess all my Staples rebates come in this form.

I'm guessing that any contract with this clearing house gives the retailer the option of saving money by using a postcard (thus no envelope and a lower postage rate), or going all out by paying for the envelope, extra postage, and a fancy letter above the check....

Mine came that way as well. But I'm not complaining due to the fact that it took only about 6 weeks to get here.

Hmm, Coppell, TX sounds very familiar. Oh, I just sent off for my $30 COMP-USA 64MB SDRAM rebate to that town. Now I'll know what to keep an eye out for. I sure hope the rebate comes through, because in essence it will mean that COMP-USA paid me a penny and gave me 64MB SDRAM chip for free.
