Sorry for the cryptic subject. What I'm trying to find out is if you order multiple DVDs from BarnesAndNoble.com using a coupon, do they apply the entire coupon to the first item that ships (like buy.com and cduniverse.com apparently do) or do they prorate the coupon over multiple shipments (like 800.com does).

I'm looking to pull a trick I've done at buy.com in the past where you order an in stock item plus an OOP item with a coupon, the entire coupon gets applied to the in stock item, and then the rest of the order for the OOP item is later cancelled.

Is that ethical? I've ordered a few times with bn.com and they've always taken the discount off the first shipment.

Ethical? Ethics are a personal thing, so what one person finds unethical others don't. Things like exchanging a DVD purchased cheaply on-line at a B&M for a more expensive DVD. Things like using a coupon that wasn't intended for you. Things like signing up for multiple pay-per-click accounts.

The whole idea of "getting bargains" could be considered unethical since if you're getting a bargain, somebody is being shortchanged.

FWIW, I went ahead and placed my order for 1 in-stock item and 1 OOP item, and the coupon was applied to the in-stock item. If they locate a copy of the OOP item, I'll be happy to have it as well, since it's something I want.

Jellofan, not having a go at ya dude but please be honest about theses sorts of shortcuts otherwise we all have to pay more in the long run as these shops keep upping the prices.
