I always liked the way Amazon ships their DVD, but the last 2 DVD I gotten, it was shipped ina jiffy bag, similar to CDUNIVERSE! It took almost 10 days for these to arrive,a nd I still havent gotten GLADIATOR, and I am afraid it is lost int he mail! ): Has cduniverse taken over amazon?

Actually I've got orders in those from Amazon, Buy, and Checkout as well as CDUniverse. They all seem to do it and there does not seem to be a logical explanation as to why some orders ship like this and some in boxes.

Actually, I think Matt Parks explained it pretty well. Most of the major on-line stores deliver through multiple distributors, each of whom pack their shipments anyway they want.
CDnow used to list the distribution center that they were using to complete your order. I'm not sure if they still do because I haven't used them in a while. It used to really annoy me when they would recharge you the base shipping rate when individual items in a multi-item were shipping from different centers.

I order from Amazon a lot and have recieved 3 different types of packing from them in the recent past.
1. DVD's in a DVD-sized cardboard box. So-so method of delivery.
2. DVD's shrinkwrapped against the bottom of a much larger cardboard box. Better method of delivery.
3. DVD in a padded envelope. Suck method of delivery.
Buy.com seems to pack DVD's the best.
