But you can play Doom on it though!

Redbox kiosks have been removed and replaced with Pokemon kiosks at Randalls (Albertsons/Safeway) stores in Texas.

Re: Redbox: Deathwatch

Some people found Redbox machines still working, but the servers at the company which processed payments were shut down. The machines didn’t know that though so they were able to get tons of free discs out of them. I looked for some in my area but all the ones I found were powered off, I would’ve liked to have gotten one of every Redbox disc case.

The one at my local Safeway is still plugged in, well, the marquee
video screen on top is still running for some reason.

The machine itself though is turned off, with the sign five months ago
saying it was closing still taped to the screen

Wouldn't it be more appropriate for playing RedBox DeadBox Redemption?

What precisely does that do?

And why did I immediately think of

UPDATE: The Redbox machine that was there three days ago is now gone

Interesting note: There's a dryer vent hose in the wall behind the machine.

From the website

Our Pokémon vending machines are a fun way to purchase Pokémon Trading Card Game products through the convenience of a vending machine. The vending machines operate similarly to a regular vending machine, except they are stocked with Elite Trainer Boxes, Booster Packs and so many more TCG products. You can check out our Pokémon Automated Retail Vending Machine Locations page to see if there’s one near you!

So ,exactly what I suspected. I cannot fathom that that would be economically viable . . . but then again, I cannot fathom quite a bit in the modern world.

FWIW, there is a Redbox still sitting at a Walgreens near me. Anybody want it?

Here's a pretty cool video. Guy bought 8 machines for $1000. Made a killing on the dvds and blurays alone.

Does it bother anyone else that some of those Red Box machines are blue?

I would guess that packs of Pokemon cards are the kinds of things that get shoplifted like crazy, so selling them from vending machines makes a lot of sense.

I had never seen a blue one before that video. And yes.

Apparently some of them were at Walmart?

Yes, all the blue ones are from Walmarts. In the beginning, Walmart insisted that they be blue so that they would not clash with their color scheme. They relaxed that requirement, so machines installed at Walmart later were the standard red.

Re: Redbox: Deathwatch

I don't think I ever saw a blue one at Walmart. The one I shop at had a red one.

Strange requirement. Not only does its color matching Walmart's color scheme make it blend into the background, but having them be a different color would also tend to make potential customers not know what they are if they're red everywhere else.
