Re: The Complimentary Amazon Thread

I decided to put this here instead of complaint because it all worked out. Ordered 3 items a couple days ago. 2 items arrived same day. 3rd item showed as arriving today. Then got an email update saying it would arrive yesterday. Followed shortly saying arrival is now Saturday. Suddenly this afternoon I got the notification it was out for delivery. Just now received it (2 pair of shoe laces). So it all worked out but the changes were annoying.

Re: The Complimentary Amazon Thread

I guess I live in the age where when something is done correctly it warrants a "Compliment". In any case, this is the Back-to-School Tax-Free Weekend in New Mexico. I wanted a new Ink Jet printer that has a straight paper path for real heavy materials including stick/decal sheets. I'm happy to report that when I ordered a printer they didn't collect the Sales Tax (called Gross Receipts tax in NM). Yeah, something is done right.

If you don't have Prime and make a purchase you can get items with free shipping for the next 24 hrs.

I don't know how that is triggered or it has its limits.

Re: The Complimentary Amazon Thread

My wife has done a lot of purchases and returns lately, trying to find the perfect this or that. I'm always nervous they'll say your account is canceled because of too many returns and cut us out with no warning. But it hasn't happened yet. So, I guess, a compliment?

I've never done an Amazon return. I keep thinking it's bound to happen but everything has been fine.

They seem to have some kind of algorithm that determines when you get banned for returns.

I've read some accounts of people getting banned for making very few returns. One guy, in particular, who bought a piece of camera equipment for several thousand dollars that Amazon didn't package properly and it got destroyed in shipping. He got banned for that, even though he claimed it was his the only thing he returned.

A while back I ordered a couple of expensive blu-ray boxed sets (in separate orders months apart) and had to request replacements multiple times because Amazon shipped them unprotected in over-sized boxes and they were damaged in transit. One I had to return twice, and the other one only once. But they basically had to eat three expensive blu-ray boxed sets. Didn't get banned, though.

I've pretty much stopped using Amazon to buy anything where I care about the condition. So no books, no movie boxed sets, nothing with a hard drive.

When you don't have Prime they combine your shipments and send them in one big box instead of separate brown envelope mailers.

Drone 1-hour or less delivery coming to Kansas City Kansas and Kansas City Missouri. $4.99 Prime Air. You have to live within 7.5 miles of the fulfillment center. Unfortunately I think I live too far. I live north of the city.

I can't really complain about delivery times. Many times if I order in the morning, I get it in the afternoon. It would've been fun to try.

Re: The Complimentary Amazon Thread

I am prone to look at the negatives of how a company treats me but Amazon has always been good in handling issues for me when they arose. Sometimes it takes persistence, but I've had them pay for shipping heavy items back to the seller and refund when I'm unhappy with a food product.

Recently I got a large cabinet that required assembly. Parts of it were mangled, either by shipping or from the factory. I suspect the factory since the box looked pretty good. The seller blamed the shipper and told me to just bend out the deformities or pay for shipping to return it. The box was enormous and very heavy so that would have been expensive. I talked to Amazon and the rep said it sounded unreasonable to have to pay the return shipping so they just refunded the couple hundred dollars that I paid for the item. Can't ask for much more than that. I'm not a very heavy spender at Amazon either.

Re: The Complimentary Amazon Thread

Wasn't sure where to put this

Amazon introduces 1-hour and 3-hour delivery in U.S.

Same-day delivery not fast enough for you? Amazon is revving up its delivery service by offering one- and three-hour options in cities across the U.S., the e-commerce giant said Tuesday.

The move better positions Amazon to compete with big-box stores, local drugstores and other retailers that have responded to the growth in online shopping by leaning into faster delivery in recent years, GlobalData retail analyst Neil Saunders told CBS News.

"It's bad news for drugstores in particular," he said, noting that Amazon's prices are often superior for everyday staples like toothpaste or toilet paper.

Re: The Complimentary Amazon Thread

I mean they charge 10 bucks to Prime and more to non Prime, so you either have to order a lot and get a discount or the discount has to be huge. Plus one messed up delivery and you're out of whatever you needed urgently. I wonder what the reliability of this is, there are items which claim same day delivery which just do not show up and get delayed/lost for a couple days.

I imagine it's their 3rd party drivers just making your delivery instead of a carload of different deliveries. I've had 100% success rate on same day deliveries. I just don't foresee a scenario in needing something that quick.

For the same day stuff I don't think it has to do with the driver (well maybe if it's really late or something) and more with them overestimating their sourcing, and not being able to find it quick enough to get it out that day. It's happened multiple times to me which is why I don't usually count on it, it's just like an extra benefit if I actually get it that day.

Re: The Complimentary Amazon Thread

I guess I got lucky. I've ordered in the morning and got it that afternoon. Sometimes at night it'll give me an option of next morning delivery, 4am-8am window.

Re: The Complimentary Amazon Thread

Some might consider this to be a complaint, especially if they are timing the delivery, but for me it was great.

I was having an issue with one of my smoke alarms, wired with battery backup. I pulled it loose and found it was original to the house, October 2001. OOPS, ordered seven new ones as they were cheaper than at Lowe's. The order indicated same-day delivery between 5 and 10PM.
They showed up at about 2:30PM.

Hey, it's the little things in life that keep me going.

I have many times and they are the greatest and I'm talking movie media!
Only thing bad is they recently started delivering movie media in cheap paper with no padding.
