Trying to use the new 10 off 30 coupon on Shanghai Noon and Lady From Shanghai (sort of a conceptual order) and check this out:

Subtotal $44.98
Promotional Discount ($10.00)
Shipping & Handling $3.97
Sales Tax $3.21
TOTAL $42.16

What's the point? The subtotal and the total are virtually the same? I suppose it's worth it since at a store the prices will be roughly the same but I'll have to pay tax and here the coupon basically just cancels out the tax, but still, it's crazy!

If it makes you feel better, I'm finding the same problem with Buy.com. As an Indiana resident, they now charge tax.

Their latest "deal" is that if you purchase $100 of items, they will take off $10. Before they take off the $10, they charge you $5.00 in tax and about $7.00 in shipping (for 5 items).

As you probably noticed with BN.com, Buy.com also has been increasing their prices.

I have moved most of my orders elsewhere.

No, of course that's true. I didn't say it was a tragedy, just kinda wierd. I did place the order figuring that it gets me the discs pretty much at store sale price but minus tax, so it's worth it. Just remembering the days of yore, with $10 no minimum coupons. Alas, those days are long gone.

You can get better deals for those two DVD's even without a coupon! I usually go to a few DVD sites and place the exact same order... then apply any coupons for that site. There have been time when a site without any coupons is still cheaper...
