I have never rented DVD's online before and I was wondering if anyone could let me know which is better between DVDOvernight and Netflix. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,

DVD Overnight rents individual DVDs - just like renting VHS tapes at your local video store.
Netflix is entirely different, for $19.95 per month, you can have 4 DVDs out at once. When you check one back in, you can check out another one. People claim to be able to rent anywhere between 12 and 20-some-odd DVDs per month, depending on how close they are to Netflix, how quickly they return DVDs, and how well they monitor when the DVDs are received. Whenever you terminate your membership, you must return the 4 DVDs immediately.

Well, I went ahead and checked out DVDOvernight. I rented Boys Dont Cry and while checking out I was informed that I would be charged $3 shipping on top of the $3 rental fee. Now, I understand the convienience of having rentals delivered to your house and what not, but I can drive down the street and rent New Release DVD's for .99 a night. Needless to say, I don't think I will pay $6 again for 1 movie rental.

Netflix doesn't charge S&H. The $19.95 fee covers the rentals and S&H. I agree, $6 for a rental...give me a break! I would rather buy it from CH or something.

I believe they have a cheaper version where you can have two rentals out at any given time for less than the $20; I am not sure about the price though. However, I know one of their cheaper rates disappeared when they started the $20 deal. I think that one was for a set number of rentals though.

I have never used DVD Overnight, but I have been an enthusiastic Netflix supporter for over a year. It is more than worthwhile if you rent more than 5 DVDs a month, shipping is extremely convenient, and their selection is far and away the best on the Internet (although people who exclusively rent new releases often complain about their lack of availability).

I belong to the "lite" program on Netflix- it's only $12 a month and you can have 2 DVDs out at any time, which is plenty for me as I live nearby and generally get disks back and forth in 1-2 days. They don't advertise this and only give you the option when you go to cancel a full membership.

While it's true they don't advertise this option, you don't have to start the cancel process to access it.
(Disclaimer: this worked for me, YMMV)
Go to Netflix home page, click on Your Account, sign in. You are now presented with a page titled Netflix Account for (Your Name) with numerous bullet items.
Click on the second one, Cancel or Change Your Rental Program. You are now on the Cancel/Change My Account page where you can switch your subscription.
Hope this helps!
