I recently bought a Marantz SR-8000 from a place I found online. However, I placed the order by phone and received the order last Tuesday. However, they have yet to bill my credit card. I know that it is not standard practice for a company to send out merchandise without getting the money first, and what I am wondering is if anyone else has had this happen and how long do they have to find their mistake and bill me. It would be really nice if they simply overlook the whole situation, and I really don't feel any obligation to let them know about their mistake. Anyway, anyone with experience in this area please let me know how it resolved. Also, anyone who may know the credit card companies policy on this sort of thing please reply. thx.

I watch my CC charges on-line and it can take over a week for the charges to show up.

In one extreme case I had with Etoys.com they really did screw up. I ordered from them in September/ early October of last year and the charge never showed up until February 2, 2000. They just applied the charge when they found it, I guess. Not even an Email from them. I wonder what they would have done if I didnt have the card anymore.

Depends on the credit card company. MBNA America shows all charges, even those that are listed as "Temporary Charges". Wells Fargo, on the other hand, doesn't list the charges until it has been fully processed.

Of course, I, the one who never balances a checkbook, keep a close eye on his accouts online. That's how I discovered that a student loan check got mis-processed. Best of all, check account balances is free.

I'll use my VISA card as an example.

As far as I can tell, when you buy something, the retailer bills the CC company and then they bill you.

So lets say I'm buying a DVD from Amazon. I order off Amazon and enter my CC details. Amazon bills VISA, they foot the bill and then VISA bill me. So VISA basically own the merchandise until you pay them.

That's why when you don't pay your CC off they come after you so hard - you owe them money, not the shop...
