What can you all tell me about Borders.com? How many of you have shopped there before? Would you recommend them over scAmazon? I was surfing over there for a little bit and their prices seemed to be competitive with scAmazon and Buy.com, and I wanted to get any and all opinions from DVD Talk's distinguished consumers before I give Borders any of my hard earned GCs...

TIA!

I made several pre-orders with Borders.com since I had a bunch of giftcertificates.com supercertificates and there was no other good way to use them.

Cons:
1) Borders.com prices are *not* anywhere *near* Amazon or Buy.com. At least not on the pre-orders I was looking at. Damn close to MSRP. I ended up with 4 movies for $100 in GCs plus some out of pocket. $24.99 for Braveheart? Youch.

2) Their order system isn't great. Order status leaves off any pricing info (!) although it is kind enough to have the shipping *rate*. Not your cost, just the rate ($3.00 + $0.95/item). There are other inconveniences as well.

3) They don't ship until the release date, but it is at least priority mail. The mailers are like those crappy oversized Amazon book mailers instead of the nice compact reel.com style DVD mailers.

4) One GC per order. Stupid giftcertificates.com sent me two $25 GCs instead of one $50 like I asked for so I had to eat an extra $3 shipping.

5) No dates listed on the site for pre-orders. They have the month only. Stuff ships on time, they just don't put the exact date on the site.

Pros:
1) You can at least use GCs on pre-orders, unlike Bigstar which is the only other giftcertificates.com DVD retailer. Well, I guess CDNow is on there, but I don't like them at all.

2) You actually get the stuff. I was a bit worried since I didn't have any prior experience with Borders, but I got my first two preorders a couple of days after they shipped.

In the end my experience was pleasant, but only because I had GCs. Without that their prices are too high. I would rank them above Bigstar.com, but way below Amazon (I still like 'em) and buy.com.

YMMV
