Is there some kind of dispute between Warner and Amazon.com?
I've noticed that every upcoming Warner title I checked has "Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available" and not available for pre-order. Is there some kind of legal dispute between them or something? Also, it appears only to be pre-orders because recent releases like Nikita: Season 4 (which came out yesterday) is available for order.
Edit: BTW, if a mod wants to move this to the Store Front, might be more appropriate there... |

Yeah, I just noticed this for the Strike Back and True Detective (only a couple weeks away) pre-orders. Your theory would make sense.

I don't think it's anything to fret about. Amazon and Warner have some weird kind of data feed that hiccups every once in a while. Last year, I think it was, every single Warner release listed Shannon Tweed in the cast. It started that way on wbshop.com first before filtering down to Amazon, so it seemed like Warner was the source of the issue there. It doesn't look like it's the same exact issue this time (since wbshop.com looks okay), but I bet it's something similarly harmless.

Looks like it's still glitched up.

True Detective is scheduled to be released in about 2 weeks and you still can't buy it. Same goes with other future WB releases like Pretty Little Liars, the 300 sequel etc.

Re: Is there some kind of dispute between Warner and Amazon.com?
I have True Detective prebooked already through Amazon...I hope the glitch doesn't screw up getting my preorder on release day.

The LEGO Movie too. Someone must be in hot water over this.

Re: Is there some kind of dispute between Warner and Amazon.com?
Yeah, any WB title due to be released this Tuesday is not available for pre-order.

Re: Is there some kind of dispute between Warner and Amazon.com?
Amazon is also not allowing preorders for books published by Hachette. They have a dispute going on with them. So maybe it's the same with Warner.

Re: Is there some kind of dispute between Warner and Amazon.com?
Amazon and Warner are negotiating a retailing agreement at the current time. This is Amazon's way of leveraging their business to get cheaper wholesale prices from Warner. The larger studios all negotiate directly with Amazon, which is why you often see smaller fry end up with poorer discounts.

Re: Is there some kind of dispute between Warner and Amazon.com?
I'd had several of these titles in my WishList for months, for most of that time they were regularly available for pre-order, and then around 2 months ago or so they switched to the current "Unavailable" status, which is how they've been ever since.
There have been quite a few articles written about the Hachette book publishing dispute, but I haven't seen a similar coverage of what's happening with WB. Which surprised me. As I commented on in the weekly Best Buy/Target ads in the DVD section, this is the first time in a long time that the regular b&m DVD/BR outlets don't have to compete with Amazon on some of these products, and would have thought that they would have highlighted titles like Falling Skies, Pretty Little Liars, etc. so as to get as many customers to buy from them as possible, and to lend strength to WB against Amazon. Eventually WB and Amazon will reach terms, but the better the terms for WB, the better able to compete will be WM, BB, etc. |

Good luck to you. |
Re: Is there some kind of dispute between Warner and Amazon.com?
Does anyone have a Warners DVD or Blu-ray preorder that has a 6/3 release? I'd be interested to know if your items shipped or if Amazon updated your order to reflect a latter shipping/arrival date.

Re: Is there some kind of dispute between Warner and Amazon.com?
Tomorrow's new releases are available again, but not later pre-orders such as True Detective. It seems that Amazon doesn't want to not sell these at all.

Re: Is there some kind of dispute between Warner and Amazon.com?
Thanks very much for the info Shannon Nutt. I can see where Amazon wants to put a squeeze on WB by reducing the pre-orders, but not cost themselves too much by not selling these at all. Between this and their dispute with Hachette publishing then these are some interesting times, I only wish that there was as much publicity for this dispute as there is with that one.

It's also got to be annoying to Amazon affiliates - like DVD Talk - who rely on click-through sales to support their sites.

Re: Is there some kind of dispute between Warner and Amazon.com?
The DVD and Blu-ray of True Detective is still unavailable through Amazon. It doesn't look like it's available through Marketplace sellers, either.
There's a discussion thread on Amazon that mentions something about Amazon having sold out of their allocation of this title, though I'm not really sure that that means. Methinks it's a pissing contest between WB and Amazon. |
Re: Is there some kind of dispute between Warner and Amazon.com?
Amazon is demanding cheaper wholesale prices from Warner. Warner is somewhat susceptible because they carry one of the largest media catalogs, including many niche releases. Without a presence on Amazon, sales will suffer.

Re: Is there some kind of dispute between Warner and Amazon.com?
Bummer! So every other business outside of Amazon is not affected, right?
|
Re: Is there some kind of dispute between Warner and Amazon.com?
It looks like they are having disputes with other companies as well
