Amazon is demanding cheaper wholesale prices from Warner. Warner is somewhat susceptible because they carry one of the largest media catalogs, including many niche releases. Without a presence on Amazon, sales will suffer.

BTW, not just Warner. I noticed Disney titles are no long available either (at least the two I checked, Need for Speed and Muppets Most Wanted).

I wouldn't have guessed that Warner might be so susceptible as I thought that WB had been moving more of their stuff to DVD-R / MOD? But that certainly makes sense. Thanks.

Amazon's needle on the "Asshole Meter" is getting closer to red. Do these people not realize these aggressive moves will only make them enemies and foster a backlash? Corporation as psychopath proven once again.

A bunch of authors cosigned this full page ad speaking out against Amazon's negotiating.
http://recode.net/2014/08/08/authors...york-times-ad/ The simmering dispute between Amazon and the book publisher Hachette over the pricing of electronic books will spill over onto the printed pages of the New York Times on Sunday in a full-page advertisement, the paper reported today. The ad, which will take the form of an open letter signed by 900-plus authors, calls on Amazon to settle its dispute with Hachette and asks readers to send email messages to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos at his Amazon email address, which is printed in the letter. “He says he genuinely welcomes hearing from his customers and claims to read all emails at that account,” the letter reads. “We hope that, writers and readers together, we will be able to change his mind.” |
Re: Is there some kind of dispute between Warner and Amazon.com?
Amazon was once a lean and mean Internet retailer. They decided that left them too vulnerable and got invested in the idea of creating an entire Amazon ecosystem. I'm sure their secret business goals are to create monopolies in a number of categories and then work from that point.

It doesn't sound much different than what WalMart did/does.

Now it's Disney's turn:
Amazon and Disney are fighting, so you can't pre-order 'Guardians of the Galaxy' on Blu-ray |
