Borders closing 200 stores

They already did. I posted the link in the Official Borders Coupon Thread earlier. But here it is:

They're closing a big one not far from my house. It was a nice store, as I remember. Haven't been there in years.

Re: Borders closing 200 stores

There's only one closing in Nevada, but it also happens to be the longest standing Borders (its been there since I was a child) and the smallest location.

I don't think the liquidation sales will be that great. Remember, there's still 400+ Borders stores in the country that are not closing.

I'm curious if Barnes and Noble may jump into some of the more prime real estate that Borders is closing.

Yeah, that store was tiny! They didn't even carry DVD's...

They should have closed the Summerlin location. They never have what I'm looking for stocked on the shelves and the employees aren't very helpful.

Man, this one is kind of sad. Living in Ann Arbor, I used to go to Border's all the time and still stop in on occasion... one of the few brick and mortars I still shop at. I checked, but obviously they are not closing down the flagship store downtown. Heck, they just built a new one about 2 miles down the road from it, which is also remaining open.

Congratulations, you just described every Borders location!

They did, or used to. I picked up a few TV on DVD box sets from that location when Borders was getting rid of a majority of their media. Picked up Spaced and Undeclared for under $20 each during that sale.

The Borders at the Block of Orange is closing. Kinda sad cause a friend works there and he'll be out of a job.

Same here (Glendale, CA) - There is a BN practically across the street though. My favorite BN in Los Angeles actually.

Maybe they added them after 2003. I lived in Vegas from 2003-2005, but I may not have been in that location since 2003. Once I saw they didn't have DVD's, I didn't have a reason to go back to that location.

Most of the Chicago and nearby suburbs got hit bigtime, but some of these stores were just dreadful to even walk into. Schaumburg and Willmette got spared. Wondering if we'll still be able to print out coupons and combine them with the new discounts they'll start to add on this weekend and as it grows in weeks to come.

The one closest to me in Madison is closing - it'll be interesting to see if the 'clearance' prices are anything worthy

At least you'll still have the one in East Madison. Only that one, and Eau Claire were spared in WI (plus 3 Waldenbooks).

That comes out March 1st! The stores won't be closing before April. I'm keeping my pre-orders intact. They will arrive well before the store closes.

I'm sad that they are closing the Howard Hughes Center location. Now I won't have a place to shop while the girlfriend is at Norstrom Rack.

I've had The Last Exile blu-ray on backorder for ship to store. Wonder what will happen if it ever gets released now that my store is closing?

Whoa! The one I was at last night (Dearborn, MI), which is HUGE is closing and the one by my girlfriend is, too. She is NOT going to be happy. :(

Damn, the two closest to us are closing as well. Blu ray prices will still prolly be pretty shitty though.

hmm ... well... all of the DC (and metropolitan area stores) are closing... guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Re: Borders closing 200 stores

Bummer. The local Borders appears to be closing. There are a couple B&Ns nearby, but Borders always had WAY better sale prices (33% off much of the time and sometimes as much as 40 or even 50% off).

I guess I'll be ordering books exclusively from Amazon in the foreseeable future.

I know with all of the coupons, I spent WAY more at Borders than I ever did at B&N.

Re: Borders closing 200 stores

Nearly every Borders location I've ever visited appears in that closing list. :(

Smorri 02-17-11 09:23 AM

Re: Borders closing 200 stores

Be warned: A month ago our local Borders was closed down. I waited for the real bargains( deals better than their coupons), but midway through the closure signs popped up saying that books/music/dvds would NOT go below 40%, but would be returned to distributors instead (the exception being the bargain books). So deals never got beyond what you could get with a coupon. Fortunately for me, on the last weekend Borders ran a 50% off coupon so I could pick up the book I had been watching.

Hey, I like that store. Pitiful DVD collection, but it's a nice bookstore and a fun place for the family to hang out.

The Sahara store was a total dump. Not sad to see that one close up.

Re: Borders closing 200 stores

The one near me is closing, can't say I went in or bought much there... but I don't like to see vacant store fronts. I'm just hoping B&N can hang on.

Edison 02-17-11 11:30 AM

Re: Borders closing 200 stores

One of the two local stores is closing, it went downhill though when it got sandwiched between two B&N stores one 2.5 miles south, and one a mile north.
