Couples Retreat had a commercial right in the middle of the film, and this was in theaters!

Re: Netflix new stripped down discs

I just stop Blockbuster, I had netflix. To me the money I was paying for to rent them and dealing with all the problems that came from it. I just wait and buy them new. In the end I am getting anywhere from 3 to 7 on Blu-ray for what we used to pay for Netflixs.

People keep repeating that it's not a big deal for rental discs not to have bonus features. I agree. However, when did scene selection become a 'bonus feature'? WTF?

I also read that you now need to pay an additional $12 if you consume popcorn and soda while watching one of the new rental discs. It's crazy.

When DVDs first came out, several of the discs touted "Scene Selection" and "Menus" as bonus features. Several of them still do.

I have no problem with this. Distributors are just trying to adjust to the Redbox/etc. thing. It definately came out of left field and really hurt DVD sales.

How long will it be before DVD's have a 'rent only' price of $80-$90 when they come out, and are available 'priced to own' at a later date. The horror!

Yeah, I went to Outback steakhouse the other day and my server said "We even have menu's for our dine in visitors to decide what they want want to order"

Seriously, when did this fad start to tout things that "should" be there lol

What's next

The new 2012 Volkswagon beetle. Standard with drivers side and passenger side airbags, 4 doors, and a front and back pane of glass to stop the bugs from flying in your mouth. Fully loaded model comes with 4 circular shaped objects called "Wheels" that make the car move for the absolute best and smooth ride of your life*

*Standard "Wheels" are square shaped

I really can't understand that at all. WHY would they not put scene selection on these rental discs. I kinda understand the spec. features (though I hate it), but scene selection, c'mon.

Anyone know the logic of this?

It's all from the studios to annoy you so much that you just go out and buy it. That is the bottom lime from what I can figure.

They can't stop rental outlets as it would hurt their sales too much. They can limit the disc they send to piss off the people who rent, hopefully enough that those people stop renting and purchase instead.

Scene selection isn't enough to make me want to purchase a film, though.

Noticed this on Sherlock Holmes. Was thinking about watching the in movie experience. Disappointed I could not but then after watching Sherlock Holmes realized I would never be bored enough to watch that lousy movie a second time. At least the previews I could not skip gave me some enjoyment.

Re: Netflix new stripped down discs

Just spoke to the manager at neighborhood blockbuster, he confirmed most new "big releases" now come in "rental" versions, no extras. He went on the say with their new agreement with the studios they will destory or return most copies of "big releases", not sure of the criteria for big release, assume some sort of minimum at the box office. I rented "Edge of Darkness" and the disc is marked "rental". I guess this means it will be harder to find big titles on the previously viewed table.

Yeah, during the closing of a Blockbuster near me I picked up a bunch of titles for $.99 and the new Final Destination had "RENTAL" plastered across the front cover art.

Re: Netflix new stripped down discs

Put me in the camp that doesn't mind the lack of features, but omitting scene selection and even a basic menu is inexcusable.
