They promised me my points back too, but I'm kinda worried because they told me that I had not reactivated my account. However that is not the case.

I got points credited, with a little bit extra as a one time "favor" i guess.

I have researched your account. You are correct the points you lost
were due to the end of the year points annualization in the amount of
209.62. What happens is that all points for the year are in a sense
cashed out for 2009. Anything that did not meet 250 points were as in
your case forfeited as points do not carry over from year to year unless
you are a Silver member. Certificates are issued for the points that are there that way the loss of points is minimal. Points only go from Jan 1 to Dec 31st. I am so sorry about the loss of your 209.62 pts. You can read more about the points annualization online at the http://myrewardzone.com website. I am sorry for any distress this has caused you. You are a very valued customer and I look forward to assisting you in the future. I am going to add those points back to you as a one time exception and throw in a few for a bonus. The total I am adding is 350. That way you will get your $5 certificate earlier.

Ha!
Here in Canada, we have to spend $400 to get a $5 gift card.

They tried to pull that crap on me, too.
Go into your profile, don't change anything, and just click "SAVE CHANGES" or "UPDATE" or whatever the button says.
After I did that, they were like "your email is confirmed and clearly if you are logging in and out of your account, it is already activated."

Hmmpf.
"Hello,
I am sorry that your points were deducted. Due to the changes to the Reward Zone program that was communicated back in the Summer. Each calendar year your account will be evaluated. If your account balance was less than 250 points, your points would be forfeited. Any points that are 250 points and over, a certificate will be issued in $5 increments. The changes were sent out via e-mail or voice message by the contact we had on file. However, as a courtesy, I can reinstate your points for you. To maintain the privacy and accuracy of your account. Please reply back to this e-mail with the name listed on the account and phone number.
Thanks, awaiting your reply,
Crystal

^ Reply back and ask if they could "kindly make a one-time exception and reinstate the points as a customer courtesy."
You might get lucky if they see that you understand you were wrong and they were right ... (sense the sarcasm? We all know they are wrong for making all the crapola changes with the program).

They just gave me back the 200 points they promised
, but no sign of the additional 5 buck gift certificate. I guess beggers can't be choosers.

Re: Best Buy taking away Reward Zone points!
Hi everyone! After reading about everyones missing points I went and called Best Buy Rewards Zone because I was worried about mine. The lady who answered my questions was really sweet and she said that the people who answer the phones have been authorized to refund the "forfeited" points. Please go ahead and call them! 1-888-BEST-BUY
I know we are all used to e-mails, and the hold time is a ridiculous 10 mins! But I know that customer service email replies just get to be a frustrating game of e-mail tag. After twenty e-mails, you still might not get what you want. . .
She promised me that they were authorized on the phones to refund your points, but that it would take a few days for them to post on your account. I'm not sure about email requests. . .hope this helps!
Oh one last request. . . I know you guys are upset, I was too! but please be nice/civil to the people on the phones. It wasn't their fault that BestBuy got stingy and decided to make our lives difficult. . .

I only lost about 65 points, but they credited me 250 back as a "favor." I'm satisfied with the way this transaction occurred.

Re: Best Buy taking away Reward Zone points!
Tried being VERY nice in my e-mail to them asking them to reinstate the 192 points I accumulated from 11/27-12/27. Got the form reply. I sent another one that was less nice and haven't heard anything yet. If nothing else, I'll pick up a $5 DVD I want at some point so I can bring my point totals up to enough to get a $10 cert and then cancel my membership (I picked up the $500 Gateway a couple weeks ago and used a $5 cert, so I'm not quite there yet). It's their choice to tell me I'm not a valued customer.
I already went elsewhere to get my wife her netbook on Saturday.

^ Firm but pleasant, I can understand. I worked as Customer Service Manager in retail for 10+ years. So, I try to keep calm and patient (at least at first), as I understand they are simply pushing corporate policies ... it's when people clearly make things up that I fly off the handle .. LOL. ;-)

Re: Best Buy taking away Reward Zone points!
Huh...the phone number actually worked out well. I had sent the second note on Saturday morning and still not heard anything as of now, so I took a chance and called the 888 number. I was on hold for less than 5 minutes and then was on the phone with the CSR for less than another 5 minutes and I'll theoretically have 250 points added to my account in the next 5-7 days (I'm going to count on them being business days). I really kinda shocked that this worked out THAT well and that easily. Of course, I'll believe it when I see it, but I'm fairly happy as of right now.

what i don't get is why they can't just make the points expire 1 year from when they are earned, not at the end of each year. i mean, you are essentially fucked if you buy something towards the last portion of the year. it would appear it's their way of saving some money.

Re: Best Buy taking away Reward Zone points!
I agree completely. That be reasonable, especially with how long it can take for points to show up in your account. The way it is now, they're essentially telling me that I'm not as valued a customer if I do my Christmas shopping at Best Buy.
Oh, and Kory, points or not, I freaking LOVE that laptop!

@ Deftones ... agreed.
@ mink-e ... It took about 5 business days for the points to reappear in my account and they show with the description of "Customer Satisfaction."
